I have very few close friends, even online ones and right now, I'm probably in the process of losing a few. It really sucks because I think they're good people and haven't done anything wrong. I just feel like their needs and ideas about friendship really no longer fit my own.

I don't know how to handle it at all. If there's something I should say or do to help things. I hate feeling like I'm letting people down, but I'm honestly doing my best.

I feel this. Over the last 2 years, I've lost SO many friends. And I know a lot of it is my fault, but not all of it. It hurts, even if you know the friendship is ending because it no longer fits what you or they want.

: I'm sorry you've gone through this too. It does suck when you feel you're partially responsible too. It makes it all more complicated and messy.

I know some people who have several close friends and I don't know how they do it. I tend to have a few very close friends and a broader circle of friends that I like and I think like me, but they aren't folks I would call at 3 AM for an emergency. What we share is fellow feeling and concern, but it's not the same as a close friend.

I feel this too.

the Dunbar number and all that. one can only support so many friendships of certain levels, and who is in them fluctuates. but also: people change, and they don't always change in ways that complement each other. nobody is to blame, you just don't fit the way you used to, and moving on is better for both of you.

: yeah, good points all. I focused so much on how I changed and haven’t thought much about how my friends probably aren’t the same people as when I met them
