In the spirit of the recent thread: Bellamy is the son of a Filipino scholar who travelled to Alexandria, stayed for a few years, but didn't fully click with the place so he moved on to keep exploring the world.

At the start of the war, Bellamy does whatever the Library tells him, until he gets a whiff of possible family, and then he completely ignores his mission and devotes all his energy to trying to find his family on very scant information because his mother wasn't very forthcoming

the ilustrados were def a thing and our national hero is said to have romanced many women as he traveled around the globe

so even without the GL component bellamy could be the son of an ilustrado and he goes back "home" to track his family only to be caught in the brewing revolution hahaha

raven can be a badass filipina revolutionary (reyes is totally a last name here) and they can meet while she blows stuff up or something

nic in this non-GL context would be guardia civil, probably an officer stationed away from the motherland only to find out how the colonies are being treated
