Is the waiting okay? When my dad sliced his thumb area when we were on vacation, he wanted me to have fun till we left so he just kinda wrapped it up and let it be until we got back home (it was our last day there) and when he went to the ER after getting home they were all, no that's been sitting around open too long, we won't touch it now.

I hope it is ok with waiting. I came within a few mm of needing stitches for my index finder when I was slicing eggplant. Just a little more and it would have been required. I know the debate you are going through right now, so health first, you do not want to lose part of a digit.
