Have I ever mentioned how much I love watching people dance I don’t know a single thing about ballet I really should but I don’t Not a clue what’s going on here But holy heck is it cool
okay! these are two different styles to do the Russian Princess variation from the Nutcracker, obviously both the Guy Version the gals are practicing their half in the back right that's the glorious poofy skirt I got excited about when I worked that show and had the big long rant except the one in mine had less ruffles
when I saw this in the Houston ballet, they didn't have a princess, they just had two Russian Princes and they were doing leapfrog flips over each other and the interpretation of them being brothers and partners in crime or them being lovers is anyone's guess
this specific Ballet company is filmed by Eva Nys and her YouTube channel is almost entirely dedicated to Them and Their Antics, but an non-negligible percentage is also dedicated to Eva's personal journey of learning ballet, because she didn't start learning until she was my age
So she's very inspiring to me because she's come a long way and she's learning ballet with these Top Dog Dancers her channel is one of my favorite ballet YouTube channels Ever the guy in the bandana's name is Parker and I like him the best out of all the dancers because he's plays around with the gender roles of ballet all the time
he had a photoshoot where Eva posed him in pointe shoes (a traditionally feminine article of clothing and style of dance) and then had the inherent grace of point shoes contrasted with poses that highlighted his natural masculinity, or put him in feminine poses where they left his masculinity to speak for itself
and there's also a video somewhere of him dancing in a skirt and just absolutely rocking it every time I see him I'm like "go cis boy go" because he personally is tearing down walls and regulations of what it means to be a male dancer which is also something I'd like to do but well as a cis guy it leaves a better impression when he does it XD
also Gotdang those split jumps I have been working on those because I can do them on a trampoline I just can't get the height up on dry land XD but hats off to them
that's the photoshoot I love how much fun they're both having with it and I love watching ballet photoshoots in general bc they give such a good sense of the juxtaposition between movement and the form of the lines
I don’t know a single thing about ballet
I really should but I don’t
Not a clue what’s going on here
But holy heck is it cool
