Ambessa, being made a werewolf by Kindred in an effort to save her life, as the physical aspect of the wolf hides that she is a monster from her children. But every full moon, she loses more of herself. However, Mel follows her mother to see where she goes every month, and sees the monster her mother really is.

the way i see it, goldenforge (meljay) is a marriage of dedication and absolute devotion. goldenherald (melvik) is a marriage of divorce and mutal devastation.

it makes sense that Mel and Jayce would find each other, and fall in love. it makes sense that when they make love, it would be compared to the arcane. jayce has been searching for magic all his life in his desire to grasp it, to understand it. mel is magic herself, even if she doesn't know it yet.
