I train EVERYONE in heavy armor. Fortress Knights have a minimum defense of 17, so it makes all my squshies into tanks

I also have started training them in either reason or faith so they can get their res to a minimum of 15

Now often I like to train my people to A+ in Heavy armor so they get the Weight -5 skill which is basically like a +5 speed stat.

To which I've said several years ago, and I'll repeat again, rusty/broken weapons in the bushes.

Pair up two units, one with enough defense/res or a battalion to get them there, and one with whatever weapon/skill/class/movement type you want to train them with. Equip the one in battle with a rusty/broken weapon, and proceed to miss your enemies for a good 90 turns of battle.

You get experience for every time you use the weapon, regardless of whether or not you hit. If they can't damage you, you can just keep going. The turn limit is 99 before you lose, so make sure you either A, bring along a weapon that can finish the job, or B bring along another unit that you keep away from the mob of attackers.

I often like to bring along a flier I stick in the corner where no one can reach them, and then have them swoop in and kill everything. That way the person I'm trying to train doesn't go up in levels in a class that isn't ideal for leveling up.

Serenes Forest | A Fire Emblem Resource here you can see that each class has different growth rates, so depending on your preferences you don't want to level up in something like cavalier that cuts your speed stat.

My preferences tend to go Soldier/Monk for first class, then Thief/Mage/Pegasus Knight for second class, then Wyvern Rider/Assassin/Bishop for the third, OR Trickster/Dark flier, and for the master classes Pegasus Knight/Wyvern Lord/Gremory/Trickster.

So if you certify in these classes, your stats will grow up to those base stat levels if you don't have that high of a stat yet.

I first employed this type of strategy back in shadow dragon by training against the bosses guarding the castle gates. Often I would forge tomes with minimum damage, minimum accuracy, and maximum weight so that my mages could actually get proficiency in their magic. It is extremely hard to get that up in that game.

I would also fully train my healers up against Laguz in PoR and RD since they never run out of weapon durability, so as long as you have the healing staves you can train forever.

Each class has bonuses to specific stats that apply only while you are in that class, yes, but there are also stat minimums
