one random fact that's blown my mind today is the fact that ancient egyptians suffered from diabetes bc of their intense bread love of bread and beer and possibly other things

for some reason, in my mind, diabetes was a modern thing

Diabetes has existed for years! People just used to....die from it. :| It wasn’t until recently we figured out insulin played a part and how to treat it.

There's a series of children's books, The Great Brain, set in 1896 Utah, and one of the books had a scene with a kid that had diabetes. It ended on the note that the kid was going to die and there was nothing anyone could do about it, with the narrator hoping that maybe someday someone would find a cure

that sounds extremely depressing, but if it's from the 1800s than I guess that's just the vibe
