My father is Persian so for us, spring equinox is aka Persian New Year. Persians like jumping over fire, but I haven’t done it since I was a kid. Always thought it was cool though. We mostly just attend or throw parties (except for the past two years) and eat traditional foods associated with the holiday. We also like to start off the new year with new...
clothing and freshly scrubbed houses. There’s lots of other things Persians do to celebrate Nowruz , but we don’t personally do it. I’ve considered doing some of it though because the ritual appeals.
PS as a half Persian, I give you permission to take on any of these for yourself without worry of cultural appropriation. As long as you don’t try to sell Nowruz kits or something . Persians are very cool and even eager to share their culture with others.
same goes for the fall equinox: unless it's routinely dropping to freezing overnight and below 50 during the day, heater doesn't go on until the equinox
I've always been fascinated by Persian culture, thank you for sharing!
