[reading] the problem I have with YA is that when it skews young I am just like I cannot with your teenage angst

and it's strange because arguably Raven Boys skews young and everyone is still in high school but they're a lot more relatable to me than

But I think the challenge of YA is that it really isnโt a genre. Itโs a demographic. YA as a โgenreโ is all over and itโs hard to say when you pick up the book what sort of flavor youโll get

And even then a lot of YA is aimed towards young readers who are capable of reading more complicated text than โchildrenโsโ ... while others are aimed at the โyoung adultsโ of late HS/college who want plots centered around the familiar young adult things that are relatable
