[reading] the problem I have with YA is that when it skews young I am just like I cannot with your teenage angst
because it's not written for me and that's fine
and it's strange because arguably Raven Boys skews young and everyone is still in high school but they're a lot more relatable to me than

and on the other hand I'm like Gainsey, save the world

Aww
Pen Again
My knowledge of Raven boys is rp, so Iโ€™m just like yeah, those sure are names of characters I met /remembers nothing
Pen Again
But I think the challenge of YA is that it really isnโ€™t a genre. Itโ€™s a demographic. YA as a โ€œgenreโ€ is all over and itโ€™s hard to say when you pick up the book what sort of flavor youโ€™ll get
Pen Again
Since YA kind of ranges from books for 15-25 yo
Pen Again
And even then a lot of YA is aimed towards young readers who are capable of reading more complicated text than โ€œchildrenโ€™sโ€ ... while others are aimed at the โ€œyoung adultsโ€ of late HS/college who want plots centered around the familiar young adult things that are relatable
Pen Again
But in either instance, protagonist could be 17

I mean Idk where this is because my perspective is skewed but
Pen Again
No thatโ€™s fair
Pen Again
Whereas Iโ€™ve met adults who do, at least based on their own rp and storytelling, so thatโ€™s the kind of person perhaps writing that book
Pen Again
Just as I have read adult novels where the character is rather similarly self involved. Itโ€™s just, a choice? And not necessarily the one youโ€™re looking for
Pen Again
Which is another reason library books are valuable. If you donโ€™t like it, you havenโ€™t invested $15-20 on a book
< not really one to talk about self nvolved characters
Pen Again
Yeah, you can keep reading with no pressure
Pen Again
If you donโ€™t like it and get tired of it, you can ship it back to its digital home and make up and ending and find something else
Pen Again
And lol I have no idea what you mean with self involved characters
Pen Again
Uh huh
Pen Again
But yay using Libby!
Pen Again
I need to read more. I just am lazy
I have one talent in this goddamn world and it's words
also what's the point of doing a pretest if you're going to assign partners
Pen Again
Iโ€™d send you some of the advanced readers copies I have of things, that Iโ€™m getting rid of, but I honestly donโ€™t know what any of them are about or if theyโ€™re good. Itโ€™s just stuff I got at con
Pen Again
Whatโ€™s the problem with a pretext with partners?
the context is prof is on the first class giving out a pretest to see where the class is
Pen Again
Ah I see. Though I think as a whole, it still gives an idea of where the class is, since teachers rarely focus lessons based on one or two students. And possibly encourages discussion and problem solving that wouldnโ€™t happen with just a โ€œhereโ€™s what you missedโ€
Pen Again
I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s a perfect way to gauge a classโ€™ understanding of a thing
Pen Again
As an adult, I actually learn a lot by going to my peers and going โ€œwtf I know boss explained this, but I still donโ€™t get how this works, can you explainโ€
Pen Again
And she either goes โ€œidk either, Iโ€™ve been meaning to askโ€ or we try to hash it out based on our collective knowledge or she maybe explains it in a way that makes sense on my level because boss is not looking st it as a fresh set of eyes and newbie, and coworker is
