The Scottish government has just issued a statement confirming that six cases of the Omicron variant have been identified in Scotland. That takes the total number of identified cases in the UK to nine
2/ It is likely that we will see cases rise further in days ahead as the faster spreading Omicron wave continues (and the lag in test results comes through system).
Worth remembering tho that numbers would be higher still but for compliance with guidance issued in run up to Xmas
3/ Soaring case numbers remind us why we shouldn’t underestimate impact of Omicron.
Even if % of cases needing hospital care much lower than for previous strains of virus, v high numbers will still put massive strain on NHS, and disrupt economy through staff absences
4/ So while we are all sick and tired of it, please help slow spread while we complete accelerated booster roll outs
Limit contacts as much as poss over New Year, keep any necessary indoor gatherings to max 3 households, wash hands, wear face coverings & get BoostedByTheBells
