I really want to do a good job of figuring out Erik's reactions to modern music. But wow, that's hard lol.
Jaq
Gold has a vinyl collection he's welcome to explore
Luke Skywanker
I've always assumed his own music had moved towards twelve tone or atonal elements, that he was basically ahead of his time and also had incorporated other modes from his eastern travels
Luke Skywanker
Jaq : I'll have him come over then, if that's ok
Jaq
absolutely!
Luke Skywanker
But to extrapolate from "this guy is an early Stravinsky" to "how does he feel about The Stooges...."?
Jaq
I suspect that if Gold has a mind to put on music while he works, it depends on his mood. But older-school elton john is probably what's on when he's sad
Jaq
loll
Luke Skywanker
So if any music people have suggestions...
Jaq
the smart thing would probably be to have him explore how stage music has evolved
Jaq
and then touch on other genres when they started getting weaved in
Luke Skywanker
yeah

I wonder what he’d think about how we use drums. Of course drums have been around forever, but using a drum set as an accompaniment spelling out the rhythm is, I believe, a new thing. European music until recently kind of had the rhythm...implied? without a four-on-the-floor drum beat, for example, marching along under the instruments.
Luke Skywanker
Yeah. he would be familiar with actual martial music, of course, but applying it to a concert like situation?
Luke Skywanker
He's also familiar with like, folk music in various places so he'd probably see "bands" as say, the type of setup you'd see in a Balkan village or a Romany camp
floofdoodle
tosses some John Cash at him
