So this is one of the lakes where all of us would go swimming. There were 5, but this was the coldest and was one of 2 with diving boards. Do you see how close the diving board is to where you can stand? Also how high? Not as high as at the other lake, but look how close to shore...

You would think it would be deadly, but there is a steep dropoff that suddenly drops 10 feet deeper so that no matter your speed off the high tower, you can't touch bottom.
Still, my sister-in-law's brother-in-law was killed on the tower, somehow he hit the second board on the way down and broke his neck.

That seems almost impossible.

One of my classmates died in 11th grade, but that was in swimming class. He was trying to replicate an olympic level diver who was a year older than us and broke his neck hitting the water wrong.

The diver was a good friend who worked for my dad. He was pretty far along in competing for the diving team when he literally shot himself in the foot.

He was deer hunting and put his rifle back in the pickup still loaded and it discharged.

Well, in the second pic, the top board has been removed. They took it out after he broke his neck.

The other lakes high dive is much higher than this one, but it was a hell of a swim just to get out to the platform and thee were three diving boards at three heights all on a different side of the platform.

I always went off the top one, except at night. I went up on the top board at night and could not see where the water was. I was terrifed and had to climb down the ladder. Worse, my BF had to come out on the board because I froze

Broccoli Smoke : The two platforms were side by side, though the higher one extended further, but when we played Simon Says, some people jumped from the middle of top to the second and then did a side diver of the lower one. That is not what Ronny was doing, though. from what I was told.

that happened to two boys in my high school, one shot the other one in the foot when they were . . . wait for it . . . shooting guns INTO A PUDDLE. I suspect they'd had a few. But the guy was fine.

Yeah, my friend was okay. He was on crutches for couple months, but you metatarsals do a lot of work when you spring forward in a dife.
