figured i should talk more about the 'family' as a whole since i have been debating on picking one of them up at some point in the future

ezra > oldest. legit been around since the bronze age and beyond. if you ask them exactly how old they are they could NOT tell you and would not, either

in comparison to dosei's creator who's just the Messenger, ezra's is the Historian. they're tasked with documenting things in history and have a ominous looking bookstore with an entire library full of human history in the back

they used to have to go out and witness things things themselves to write it down, but after the Watcher made an avatar instead they're able to just laze around and wait for information to be delivered to them instead

they've been alive so long and seen so many things die and crumble that they've developed an extremely conflicting personality, faking extreme affection because they've become unable to tell whether it's real or not

which means they are incredibly touchy and clinging, citing themselves as 'responsible' for helping all their 'little siblings' get through life whether they like it or not

they do things like teach them basic things and get them new clothes to adjust to the eras and act like a wellspring of knowledge but really they don't put as much effort into it as they'd like to appear. case in point; dosei

the amount of time he's actually been out and about after fully gaining consciousness is negligible due to the time he spent in solitary confinement for his punishment, so compared to others like him he's very emotionally stunted with very little expanded knowledge

while ezra did take him after it for a few days to clean him up and teach him how to write (terribly) and read (slowly), that is pretty much...all they did

even niko asked why they didn't bother to teach him more as they should have and they said it was both a lot of effort and because 'he's cuter when he's ignorant'

ezra basically just does things to make them feel like a good person and to appear as someone wise and all-knowing, but being as old as they are as well as being the only one to have a vessel with a larger portion of 'soul' they're probably the most emotionally stunted out of them all

dosei does not like ezra bc 1. feels fake as fuck and 2. too touchy. everytime he's forced to come into contact with them they call him cute and latch onto him like a leech and he hates it with a visceral passion

dosei can and would sell ezra to the devil for a corn chip and he can't even eat it

niko > around a good 3,500 or so. around the middle on the higher side in terms of age. born from the Apothecary, he mainly documents and collects various herbs and medicines to the point he could tell you the medicinal properties of just about anything

he mostly wanders around europe and asia, favoring east asia. he's been everywhere much like dosei has, but has preferred to settle in specific regions nowadays. puts up a front as a stickler for rules but has a soft spot for humans compared to others and tends to go out of his way to offer medicine or a diagnosis to the less fortunate he passes by

that being said, he comes off as abrasive and a little aggressive much like dosei himself. very loud. very sharp teeth.

while dosei has hypalgesia, niko suffers from prosopagnosia, or facial blindness. because of this, he's learned to recognize people by their voices, their hair, the sound of their footsteps as well as their gait and other features

he firmly believes that their kind should simply do as their told and get by, which means he and dosei do NOT get along in any capacity whatsoever despite the fact niko thinks he's trying to help in some way

if they come into contact it's a lot of yelling and a lot of shin kicking and hair pulling, 2/10 do not put them in the same room if one is in a bad mood

considering niko is a good 6'4" and dosei is 4'10" with his shoes on this is. something

despite this if niko were to see dosei actually listening to somebody else he would horribly and viscerally jealous because what the fuck. he has a very 'i can pick on him you can't' look on his relationship with dosei and he would be very offended

dosei is, naturally, a terrible little bastard who does enjoy hurting people he doesn't like in the sense that kicking them in the shins and pushing them into ponds sparks joy

that being said i don't think he'd ever have the capacity to kill someone at least willingly due to his own aversion to death and it'd definitely freak him right the fuck out

watching things happen from afar maybe like the domino effect isn't as bad as literally doing it himself

he has an almost sick sense of morbid curiosity which...definitely isn't healthy, but he's pretty emotionally stunted and doesn't really understand due to his disconnect from the lives of regular humans

his feelings towards humans are very complicated in that he sees them as kind of...lesser? weird? and yet he strongly envies them for being able to live and die freely where he's permanently stuck

he's shackled to this shitty existence where he has to listen to orders or suffer the consequences, being on the move constantly and being forced to learn and pick up things in passing by watching these people go about their day without a care

all of them calling each other 'siblings' is like form of a mockery of a human relationship, because none of them are related

they don't really know what love/affection/family is, and even the more emotionally developed ones struggle with it. niko has strong empathy, but is too aggressive and job-oriented to give it properly. ezra is too exaggerated and dramatic, coming off as extremely fake and not genuine

on the flipside, dosei doesn't know how to deal with his own emotions and finds touchiness and kindness strange. he both likes it and doesn't, and even if he ends up with someone he gets attached to he still lashes out aggressively because he doesn't know what else to do or how to react

it both confuses and frightens him but he keeps going back despite his shin-kicking and complaints because it actually feels nice to be liked(?) even if he wont admit it

most people dont listen to him in any capacity, understandably since he's a little asshole

dosei doesn't tend to wear his mask because the idea of giving up his bodily autonomy even somewhat frightens the shit out of him, so only if it's an absolute must will he cave and put it on. he hates having a youkai less because of them getting along and more because he doesn't want to share his body
