he's been alive a long ass time but unlike some others of his kind who get to be like exposed to. literature or other opportunities to learn he never really did?
considering his kind spends most of their time as a blank slate, the ones who've been alive long enough tend to judge actual age based on how long they've had some kind of consciousness
compared to his actual age (800) he only started gaining curiosity and such about 500 years in and fully 'woke up' in a sense around 600....so he's considered 'young' compared to some others who've been wholly sentient for thousands of years
he's never had to do anything like clean or take care of injuries or even really...change clothes...so he's pretty much ignorant on how regular people work
he's got crippling nyctophobia but he's also got a fear of needles, especially sewing needles and thread. if you ever tried to sew up a wound of his he'd almost go berserk
in slum he sleeps in the main tatami room that opens onto the balcony because the bedroom doesn't have a window. he has a blanket nest and sleeps with his little light jar next to him at all times
that being said, there are a few who are. compared to him they're a lot more intelligent and far older than he is as they've had way more time to adjust and more opportunities to learn, per-say
since their maker is the Historian, they've been documenting history for ages and are arguably the most intelligent while also being generally fake as fuck
the other one is Niko, who categorizes illness and disease. they end up working with Ezra a lot and so they're more acquainted then any others since most of them don't tend to come into contact with each other a lot
their race only receives a tiny bit of their host's soul to gain life, because a meager human container was never meant to hold that much holy energy in it, and they're all still flesh and blood despite the differences
ezra has actually received more than the usual over the years due to how long they've been in service, which is why they cover their eyes, which are bright white and cause headaches when stared directly at. they expend a lot of energy keeping themselves looking 'normal'
all of them (sans ezra) have similar characteristics, which are slit eyes and silver blood, but other than that their bodies and conditions heavily vary
dosei's hypalgesia is unique to him, while niko has prosopagnosia. these tend to be side effects of their 'awakenings'. nobody knows what ezra's is because if you ask them they'll just say it's a secret
dosei really likes flowers, because they're some of the first things he got attached to when he started questioning things. he has no idea how to take care of them, though, so whatever he sticks in his apartment dies pretty fast
he has something of an obsession with collecting things, because he thinks owning things are what people do, and it'll make him more 'normal'. if you give him a gift (genuinely), he'll never get rid of it
levelling with him and actually either sympathizing or reasoning with him (as best you can, anyway, since he's dumb as fuck) confuses him but also slightly makes him more inclined to listen...sometimes
all members of their race in addition to their similar eyes and blood, also have similar scars. they're faint and look like stitch marks, but where they are vary from person to person
osei's are around his rotator cuff, where his shoulder meets his arm, as well as lower thigh. ezra's are around the wrists and ankles. niko's are around the neck and midsection
their blood does not stain (luckily for reno) but if you don't wash it out fast enough it'll leave a faint glimmery residue that is very difficult to get rid of
since they're not fully human and more supposed to resemble humans, a lot of their organs are technically just 'for decoration' and don't actually function
they can eat and drink (although they don't have to), and rather than process it like a normally body would, anything they ingest is absorbed into their system instead
since his vocal chords are completely gone he can't really vocalize much, but he could make small noises if he really really tried...unfortunately his mouth and his throat are the two places that actually process pain normally and doing so aggravates his throat injury to the point of potentially coughing up blood
normal animals do not actually like their kind and tend to avoid them purposefully. he's been scratched and bitten by many a cat and dog in his day but it doesn't stop him from wanting to touch them regardless
-dosei sleeps exclusively in either the fetal position clutching onto something or splayed out like a starfish - he actually has a tanktop on under his giant shirt, and his pants are sweatpants. when he sleeps he just ditches the shirt and the shoes and calls it a day - actually like to draw and doodle a lot but hides it bc he thinks he'll get made fun of
had a discussion with silver the other day and i came to the horrific realization since all of his kind have fucking slit eyes they could, and quite possibly, could just dilate their eyes like a cat seeing a mouse whenever they see something they like
which lead into 'dosei but with zoomies' which is why he pisses off hsi neighbors bc he sits up at 3 am and is like oh fuck i have to run down the hallway
anyway into more depressing shit i feel bad you'd ask him if he has any friends and he'd have to answer no he has not ever really known affection in his entire life*
