do recommend all his bleaching tips, like leaving bleach on past x minutes gives you no more lift, what products to use to get brassiness out if you've got a red tone, etc.

learning to dye my own hair was great and powerful, go for it. don't fuss if it isn't perfect the first time. hair grows out and youll get better every time
