Animal Crossing Wow, what a fun, yet chill series this is
Zilla Fieri
I actually played New Leaf a few years ago and didn't stick to it as I did with New Horizon, but even so, here's a game where you can play at your own pace, whatever that may be, and it'll be perfectly fine
Zilla Fieri
You can go all in on your architecture, money farming, island designing and have that be just as valid as checking in once in a while to greet everyone, check any special visitors and whatnot
Zilla Fieri
Major props to New Horizons for coming out at literally the perfect time, with the world confined to their homes and in need of as much happiness as they can scavenge
Zilla Fieri
I've been real engaged in this game, even if I'm not doing a whole lot every day. It's just so peaceful and cute that it's hard not to be charmed by it all
ohhitsasnake
perfect timing agree
mask of pride 🌸
big agree
Zilla Fieri
Hell, I remember actually almost crying the first time I met Stitches
Zilla Fieri
Just this. Happy actual teddy bear going around, pretending to fly around the island, making bug friends and he was just. So goddamn adorable
Zilla Fieri
A lot of the game feels like that. Like everyone wanting a reprieve from whatever lives they had before to start anew in a random island where you can just. Breathe fresh air and lead a simple, fulfilling life
Zilla Fieri
I fucking wish I could do that, but at least through Animal Crossing you can
BERSERKER
you want to balance the salt? ok
Zilla Fieri
I love how wholesome the series is, like it knows it's a much needed reprieve from real life
BERSERKER
i want you to tell me something good in the world right now
BERSERKER
i know good things exist so the question is do you
Zilla Fieri
Devil May Cry my god, am I so happy that this franchise exists
Zilla Fieri
It brings us so much fucking ham and cheese while also having some really good subtle moments mixed in there?
Zilla Fieri
Also combat is just /chef's kiss
Zilla Fieri
It's so good at what it does, what the actual fuck
Zilla Fieri
the first Devil May Cry was a goddamn trend setter and despite a few hiccups along the way, it found its identity and became a freaking legend
Zilla Fieri
But rather than vague accolades, how about we talk about an actual consistent development seen through Dante himself? How he starts as this shitty young adult, goes to a serious older guy with a chip or two on his shoulder, finds a sense of peace after dealing Mundus and being able to take a backseat when it's someone else's time to shine?
Zilla Fieri
How about the sprinkles of a sensitive side blended in through all the goofy or badass moments that note how much he actually worries about and isn't a total doofus?
Zilla Fieri
How about having almost every character be that way, struggling through a rough world, kicking ass and ultimately realizing yes, it's okay to have and feel emotions? It's okay to cry; you don't have to bottle it all up
Zilla Fieri
How about a killer soundtrack that lets fights be as hype as they should be? And ohhhh those fights. These characters are so badass not just because they're strong or talented, but because they take on a lot of strong and talented enemies. Even regular mooks can fuck you up if you're reckless
Zilla Fieri
Boss fights are great and reward you for being aggressive and consistent and the combat. Just...oh my god, actually playing these games can be a fucking blast.
Zilla Fieri
It's not easy to get into. You have a lot of tools at your disposal, especially as Dante, but it also means you have so many ways to take on enemies and pretty much all of them are valid
Zilla Fieri
5, the newest game, is a contender for best game in the franchise and boy would I have to agree with that
Zilla Fieri
The peak of everything they've learned and built up throughout the series, in terms of gameplay and storytelling
Zilla Fieri
You won't catch everything the first time through and that's okay, it means having to play a really fun, challenging yet rewarding game more and more. Twist my arm, I know
Zilla Fieri
I think Capcom realized that the best thing to do with the series is let the devs do what they want. They're good people; they know what they're doing.
Zilla Fieri
They had to beg the director not to quit after DmC flopped and offered him full control of the project just please save Devil May Cry
Zilla Fieri
DMC 6 is an inevitability and I can't wait to see what direction it takes
Zilla Fieri
5 wrapped up the Sons of Sparda storyline, so Dante and Vergil won't premiere much, but that means Nero inherits the spotlight and oh my god, Nero is such a good boy
Zilla Fieri
I also hope it means more playable Trish and Lady. The two female protags in this series are really fucking good
Zilla Fieri
Devil May Cry wound up shaping a lot of my interests, so it's important to me okay, okay
Zilla Fieri
Monster Hunter This is probably my favorite game to play with friends. And that's coming from someone who isn't big on getting games just to play with friends
Zilla Fieri
I've been playing the games for about a decade and even back at the barest incarnation I actually played, there was a lot of fun to be had. It's only gotten better since then
Zilla Fieri
The learning curve is steep, yes, but it's so worth the investment
Zilla Fieri
You don't just fight monsters; you hunt monsters
Zilla Fieri
You learn to use the environment to your advantage, whether it's for items or anything that you can turn against your target
Zilla Fieri
You find tracks to study their habitats and favorite areas
Zilla Fieri
You fight them and learn their patterns. Their strengths, their weaknesses
Zilla Fieri
You best them and earn materials to make into weapons and armor, meaning you not only got stronger because your gear made numbers get higher, but you also learned how to handle that monster a little better
Zilla Fieri
Monster Hunter will not hesitate to punish you for making mistakes or getting greedy. This is not a button masher by any means
Zilla Fieri
Enemy attacks have advantage over yours for a reason. You need to be opportunistic and learn when to jump between offense and defense
Zilla Fieri
And it feels good figuring that out
Zilla Fieri
Nowadays, you have about fourteen different weapon types to choose from, each with a different playstyle and surprisingly, they're all very well balanced
Zilla Fieri
giant hammers, bows and arrows, dual blades, guns of varying size, a RWBY style gunlance, a sword that becomes an axe and can turn into a chainsaw, a glaive that gives you an insect companion and lets you bounce around and be super dodgy
Zilla Fieri
There is no wrong way to play the game. There are "optimal" setups, yes, but every style can get you through a hunt
Zilla Fieri
Also there are so many cool monsters in this franchise
Zilla Fieri
There are so many environments that they all live in
Zilla Fieri
And for the lore inclined, there's a lot of backstory to dig up on how things were before and why things are as they are now
Zilla Fieri
It's all shamelessly over the top and great
Zilla Fieri
I will admit that even the newest installment can be janky, but it's an improvement. Monster Hunter has been consistently good throughout the years
Zilla Fieri
And I'm quite sure part of that is because the games are huge in Japan
Zilla Fieri
They cannot afford to neglect a franchise their home loves and honestly, I don't remember them doing so that much
Zilla Fieri
I can only think of the delayed sharing of Generations Ultimate to the rest of the world to after World was announced and wow, that didn't work out well
Zilla Fieri
But even so, there's just. Such a cool world here that I absolutely love
Zilla Fieri
And despite its numerous flaws, this is a franchise I will continue to play
Zilla Fieri
like DMC, I could make a separate plurk on why I love Monster Hunter and will refrain from going on for too long. Let's just say the least amount of time I've put into an entry is a hundred or so hours while the most I've put into one is a thousand hours
Zilla Fieri
I love this franchise to death
Zilla Fieri
Lemme put it this way
Zilla Fieri
I'm such a snob about plots because I've been spoiled by tabletop roleplaying
Zilla Fieri
The sheer amount of freedom you have in what you and your characters do is incredible.
Zilla Fieri
Who the fuck would just let the villain teleport safely after losing? Fucking no one, that's who. Counterspell, monk punches them unconscious, tie 'em, Zone of Truth their ass for a good interrogation
Zilla Fieri
Communication problems between people the reason behind a conflict? Fuck no, throw those idiots together and force them to have an uncomfortably adult conversation
Zilla Fieri
or you know, any spellcaster ever: I cAsT fIrEbAlL
Zilla Fieri
You don't just make an avatar; you make a living, breathing character. You're not just assembling stats and skills; you're assembling a backstory, issues, personal quirks
Zilla Fieri
And you put them against other made characters and the world the DM presents you
Zilla Fieri
It's a collaborative storytelling project that's so unique that there's really no substitute
Zilla Fieri
My experiences are both as a player and as a DM. No one can fully predict what will happen next and that's okay
Zilla Fieri
Because your greatest tool in tabletop is your imagination.
Zilla Fieri
Your creativity can take encasing a jorogumo in ice to pulling off a Final Atomic Buster
Zilla Fieri
You can decide the best way to escape a haunted house is to Kool Aid Man through the walls with a spell check
Zilla Fieri
You can decide to befriend a recurring villain by uncovering important plot notes early on and making a very powerful ally
Zilla Fieri
D&D lets you create so many stories, accidental or otherwise. You form a camaraderie with the party, your fellow players and your DM. You develop a sense of belonging because you have a group who will get the jokes, share in those IC good times and bad times
Zilla Fieri
It did not take long for tabletop RP to become one of my favorite hobbies
Zilla Fieri
I'm trying to think of other things to say on the matter and all I can think is "AAAAAAAAAH I FUCKING LOVE THIS"
Zilla Fieri
I realize this isn't all that specific to D&D itself, like its systems or editions, but the term became synonymous with tabletop RP for me
Zilla Fieri
Though on that note, most of my experience is with 5e and I've really enjoyed it
Zilla Fieri
It doesn't have 3.5's complexity and it really doesn't need it
Zilla Fieri
I already take like, two hours to make a single character sheet and that's with 5e's streamlined process :V
Zilla Fieri
But I do love the different classes having different ways of swinging a sword or casting a spell
Zilla Fieri
I'm forever impressed at the different flavors of spellcasters especially
Zilla Fieri
Wizards have studied hard for their magical prowess, Sorcerers have an innate talent whether because of fey or raw magic or aliens or or an ancestor being a dragon fucker or whatever, druids draw from nature itself, clerics their gods, warlocks their patrons....
Zilla Fieri
And if there's ever an issue you have with the system, you can negotiate it with your DM. Not everything is set in stone and I love that this is a thing WotC encourages
Zilla Fieri
Strength is nearly worthless in 5e, for example, so for the class that outright needs it, Barbarian, I will house rule that their AC can be based off STR and CON instead of DEX and CON
Zilla Fieri
You don't just work with your group to tell a story; you work to help each other enjoy the game better and I really love that
Zilla Fieri
tl;dr D&D is wonderful and everyone should try it at least once
Zilla Fieri
Star Fox Wolf his crew of gays are wonderful, end meme
Zilla Fieri
Wolf and*
Zilla Fieri
I honestly haven't played too many of these, but don't worry, I played the most important entry, Star Fox 64
Zilla Fieri
And holy crap, is it fun.
Zilla Fieri
Flying is smooth, I enjoy the combat and even the intricate ways you can unlock new areas and whatnot.
Zilla Fieri
I do feel the series could use more love, especially since the last time they got attention was for that star ship game that featured them as DLC or whatever it was
Zilla Fieri
But you know what great thing has come out of Star Fox?
Zilla Fieri
This radio show ass animation is top notch and I am here for it
Zilla Fieri
So much meme material from just one episode and the clips of future work they've released
Zilla Fieri
I love it, I just love it
Zilla Fieri
I admittedly don't have a lot to say on the matter since most of my love for it is fawning over Star Wolf, SF64 and A Fox in Space but yeah. I would welcome more Star Fox in my life
Zilla Fieri
Legend of Zelda I'm not gonna lie: I haven't played too many of these games, but
Zilla Fieri
I've beaten Twilight Princess once and Wind Waker was my first official Zelda game
Zilla Fieri
I don't regret it in the slightest
Zilla Fieri
There's a reason Zelda is the standard for adventure games
Zilla Fieri
but as far as my experiences with it go? It may not be my favorite franchise, but I definitely enjoy it
Zilla Fieri
Wind Waker is cute and I will always remember the title screen music
Zilla Fieri
also grandma. Link's grandma is absolutely precious and I love her?
Zilla Fieri
The fact that her soup is one of the best items in the game is just...so heartwarming
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
pizza
Zilla Fieri
Ultra tasty soup that refills health and magic, lets you deal double damage until you get hit and each bottle has two servings because it's that hearty
Kaysper
Odin Sphere?
Zilla Fieri
and unlike other potions where Link hesitates and looks uncertain about drinking them, he always looks so happy to have soup
Zilla Fieri
I love that detail
Zilla Fieri
also Tetra is wonderful
Zilla Fieri
as for Twilight Princess, I...honestly don't remember a lot about the game? I only played it once and it's definitely good, but i really don't remember much of that playthrough
Zilla Fieri
but I remember liking Midna and thinking Zant's fight was really freaking trippy
Zilla Fieri
....also I have Breath of the Wild sitting around in my collection. I didn't get very far in it, but that just means I can start my file over and both reexperience the beginning parts and also proceed with the other 95% of the game I didn't do
Zilla Fieri
What I remember playing of it is so goddamn satisfying, holy crap
Zilla Fieri
also I have never played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. I'm sure they're good games and I would probably enjoy them, but I'd really have to warm up to them if I wanna get past the years of excessive hype
Zilla Fieri
But the most important thing about OoT in particular to me?
Zilla Fieri
MindEvaporator
God I love a fox in space
Zilla Fieri
kataranisword: You want IRL good things, I gotchu right now
Zilla Fieri
You
Zilla Fieri
Yeah you
Zilla Fieri
You and anyone else who's made it this far into this plurk
Thx everybody!
I'm not gonna lie? Grandma's soup was one of the first scenes in Wind Waker to make me cry, it was so sweet
Zilla Fieri
I haven't been in a great headspace for a while now but I know for sure that I would be in a worse place if I didn't have online friends I can chat with or shitpost at or randomly nudge on Discord now and then
Zilla Fieri
The world is shit and there are a lot of shit people bringing it down, but there are good people here
Thx everybody!
and God. Robin Williams naming his daughter after Zelda is one of those things that like
Zilla Fieri
And some of them have been really patient with me and how difficult it is to get me doing anything and that means more to me than I can properly convey
Thx everybody!
so much of my time spent around other people my age was spent being told that the things I liked were stupid and unimportant, and being a nerd was Weird. and then there's Robin Williams being such a nerd he gets to advertise the new game with his daughter and it's like
Thx everybody!
people are nerds and it's okay
Zilla Fieri
It's okay to be a nerd~
Zilla Fieri
The fact that it suddenly became cool to be a nerd after picking on them for years without so much as an apology is complete bullshit and I hate that but this is a happy plurk
Zilla Fieri
My friends are a big reason why I'm able to hold myself together each day, even when the world continues to get worse
Zilla Fieri
I only wish I was better at conveying how much you all mean to me or being less socially anxious so I could spend more time with you all
Zilla Fieri
I don't care how cheesy it'll sound that having friends like you all has kept me going; it's the truth
Zilla Fieri
I cannot say good things about where I'd be if I was so closed off without online friends since I'm already lacking in nearby friends and I refuse to get into that
Zilla Fieri
So thank you all for being my friend, for being with me through my high times and low times
Zilla Fieri
I know I'm not easy to work with. I can hardly deal with myself sometimes
Zilla Fieri
But it means so much that you're all willing to stick with me
Zilla Fieri
Pizza IT'S MOTHERFUCKIN' PIZZA, IT NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION
Zilla Fieri
Warm, cheesy, saucy, totally delicious
Kaysper
(ACTUALLY SORRY, I JUST HAD A DIFFERENT THOUGHT. Can I retract Odin Sphere and replace it with Castlevania?)
Zilla Fieri
(Sure!)
Kaysper

𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
but build me an ideal pizza
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
gimme yo pizza dreams
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
embrace the dant
Zilla Fieri
I don't go to local place that often, so I'm trash that regularly enjoys Dominos and I don't care, Dominos makes some tasty pizza
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
That's valid!
Zilla Fieri
I got into loving pan pizzas a lot because then each bite is full and even
Zilla Fieri
Now I could definitely get into local pizzas. I've had smaller chains before and those are delicious. Very much worth the price
Zilla Fieri
I'm deep in the city, so big chains are my go-to for a lot of things
Zilla Fieri
As for building a pizza, I always enjoy filling them with toppings whenever possible
Zilla Fieri
It can if like, a local place has a bangin' plain cheese and I'll eat those up no problem, but otherwise I like to load them up with whatever I can throw together (and maybe try to make them coherent)
Zilla Fieri
I forget if I have One Golden Pizza I would go to, but I do have a few go-tos I would absolutely love
Zilla Fieri
Sometimes I like a good spinach pizza with alfredo sauce, mushrooms, onions and feta cheese
Zilla Fieri
Sometimes I want a philly cheese steak pizza with thin cut steak, onions, green peppers and...mushrooms
Zilla Fieri
I really like chicken bacon ranch pizzas, now that I think about it...
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
mmmmm
Zilla Fieri
And you know what, I don't care what anyone has to say on the matter; I like pineapple on my pizza
Zilla Fieri
I love combining flavor profiles like sweet and salty, it's just. It's beautiful, I want it
Zilla Fieri
So I'd often put pineapple on something that has a lot of salt in to help keep it balance and you know what, that's a nice bit of freshness, too
Zilla Fieri
...Oh, you know what's a really good pizza style that I'd happily eat without toppings?
Zilla Fieri
Sicilian style pizza
Zilla Fieri
I don't know if it's just me but somehow Sicilian style has a different flavor to it even if it's the exact same ingredients on a thicker crust
Zilla Fieri
It's been a good while since I had a Sicilian slice and I would kill for one
Zilla Fieri
Mmm, I'm imagining a nice slice of pizza right now with diced tomatoes and chicken strips on a nice, thick crust....
Kaysper
HELL YEAH PINEAPPLE PIZZA.
Zilla Fieri
....I'm making mac and cheese with leftovers right now, so the hunger is real
Kaysper
One of my local pizza places does a pineapple pizza with cream cheese and red onions. It good.
Zilla Fieri
Ooh, I would try that
Zilla Fieri
But yes, pizza. I'm willing to try lots of things on a pizza because you can put so much on it as toppings so why not
Zilla Fieri
Odin Sphere Castlevania So I can openly admit that the story isn't the strongest aspect of this series and that's okay because there's a lot to love about Castlevania
Zilla Fieri
What gets me invested in this series isn't a sort of overarching plot line that somehow all comes together after a thousand years of battle because that doesn't really happen
Zilla Fieri
What gets me invested is how all of these individual stories happen and tell a story of Dracula's war with mankind
Zilla Fieri
There's a lot I love about this series. It's got some delicious gothic fantasy to it, the music is consistently good, there's a strong sense of continuity, I like a lot of the characters and I can enjoy both classic gameplay and Metroidvania style
Zilla Fieri
You'd think fighting Dracula over and over would get boring but no, there's so many circumstances that it all plays out and he's more the commonality between them all
Zilla Fieri
Individual character stories and how they all fit together into this timeline is why I love Castlevania so much
Zilla Fieri
You see the beginnings in Lament of Innocence, how Dracula was once a man named Matthias who cursed God for taking his lover away, then came up with a plan to become immortal to spite God and wanted his bff Leon Belmont to join him
Zilla Fieri
except all this included killing Leon's girl, so after fixing all this, he makes a vow of revenge for his bloodline to hunt Dracula and the night and that sets everything in motion
Zilla Fieri
then Dracula's out being evil and bloodthirsty until he meets and Lisa and ohhh boy
Zilla Fieri
I said earlier that story isn't so strong in this series, but the Netflix show adds so much depth to all of this that it's soooooo goooooooood
Zilla Fieri
Ten minutes at most of Lisa meeting Dracula and you see exactly how those two fell for each other
Zilla Fieri
The show could have its own talk but mmm it's so good.
Zilla Fieri
That leads to Trevor helping to take him down and making the Belmonts a respected name and establishing their alliance with the Belnades clan
Zilla Fieri
Then they fight Dracula for a few generations until Richter fucks up and the Belmonts need to take a break, so the next few centuries are about people filling that void
Zilla Fieri
We meet the Morris family and the Lecarde family, the Order of Ecclesia comes and goes, all until 1999 when Dracula is truly defeated and Soma Cruz becomes Dracula's reincarnation and just
Zilla Fieri
MMM
Zilla Fieri
It doesn't have to all lead to this one deep thing to be satisfying; it all just makes sense and I love that
Zilla Fieri
I'm a sucker for timelines and past actions explaining how things are now. You'd think that would make me a history buff but...eh, maybe if I studied it, I'd be for it, but eh
Zilla Fieri
Anyway, they aren't typically happy games and that's okay. It's gothic fantasy; it doesn't need to be happy
Zilla Fieri
But it also doesn't go full grimdark
Zilla Fieri
This is one of those times where I have almost the entire timeline memorized because each major event stands out that much
Zilla Fieri
And the major players in each are also, generally, enjoyable in their own way
Zilla Fieri
Personally, Shanoa is one of my big time favorite Castlevania characters
Zilla Fieri
then again, Order of Ecclesia is straight up one of my big time favorite Castlevania games
Zilla Fieri
That's also a specific topic I could go on and on about
Zilla Fieri
The series also has so many bangers throughout its history
Zilla Fieri
And these aren't even some of the staples like Vampire Killer or Bloody Tears or Dance of Illusions
Zilla Fieri
Also the games themselves tend to vary in quality but are generally good. The lowest dips I can think of are the N64 games and the PS2 games are okay but yeah
Zilla Fieri
And while the series sits in chains as a dead Konami IP with only rumors existing that it may return
Zilla Fieri
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - Theme of Bloodst...
the spirit lives on. The spirit burns strongly
Friendpatine
The Lords of Darkness duology kicks ass.
Zilla Fieri
I have not played them very much but at least the gameplay in 2 looks pretty fun
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
god that theme
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
its haunting and wonderful
Kaysper
Kaysper
Also I totally count Bloodstained as a Castlevania game. It's just in an alternate timeline due to that tinfoil hat theory I spent another plurk on.
Kaysper
Point being if someone tells me Bloodstained is their favorite Castlevania game, I go "quite understandable." AND. THAT CASTLEVANIA MOOD.
Kaysper
It has got aesthetic coming out the ears.
Kaysper
And bangin' tunes coming out the ears too.
Zilla Fieri
Oh right, Bloodstained also follows an important Castlevania tradition
Zilla Fieri
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night OST - 08 - Gears o...
giving the Clocktower area a badass tune
Kaysper
Heckin' yeah.
Kaysper
I remember barging into that level and going ":-o!!!!"
Zilla Fieri
That area did a lot of things right
Zilla Fieri
like bringing us very cute werewolves
Zilla Fieri
They're also real cheeky and made the werewolves drop wool in this game
Kaysper
I was so ecstatic when I got that shard off both versions of the werewolves.
𝕁𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕨𝕒𝕪
