This is Not a Game: How Steam Harbors Extremists
yo. Shit getting real now. /BUNKERS IN TO FIGHT!
CChuuni
https://images.plurk.com/7z4MTeem7AUCazg5Pjukyv.png no fair baiting antisemitism by exemplifying tropes, that's cheating!!!
CChuuni
I mean they literally just go into the finances of gaming industry I can't

CChuuni
YOU REMEMBER YOU ARE A NGO RIGHT?
CChuuni
the evidence of the widespread extremist recruiting or organizing in online game environments (such as in Fortnite or other popular titles) remains anecdotal at best, and more research is required before any broad-based claims can be made.

This is Not a Game: How Steam Harbors Extremists
they are just NAKEDLY talking about the money
CChuuni
I get it you don't want to like have people profiting off of antisemitism but
CChuuni
there's a big difference between profiting off of antisemitism, harboring it, and steam's pure lack of quality control or mods
CChuuni
It's like suing the US gov because we have neo-nazis... in existence and not all arrested yet
CChuuni
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EW4f05lXsAEKY3r?format=png&name=small this might mean more if it was coming from someone who isn't EA !!!!!
CChuuni
ALSO alkdsjaslkdjalksdj exacerangutan as I've written and published "professional" essays it drives me up a fucking WALL when they LITERALLY state "I'm going to [x]" You are supposed to set up that you will do that, yes, BUT DON'T JUST FUCKING SAY IT LIKE THAT
CChuuni
CC Out loud: You're not in 4th grade anymore!!!!
Luffy-bro: They didn't learn beyond that! They didn't even learn that in 4th grade, they learned it in college! And their professors were like "... ugh well at least you're writing now. Now go be a journalist"
CC: (rofl) I am trying to breathe here!!
Luffy-bro: Sorry, sorry, I'm just kidding. And other
CChuuni
people are like "why would you encourage them to do that" and the professors are like "Well, I certainly don't want them to be a scientist!!!"
CC: /DIES
CChuuni
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EW4f7lOXQAE9ryn?format=png&name=small Let's all propaganda
CChuuni
CC Out Loud again: Let's all propaganda!
Luffy-bro: :-) OK
CC: D: NO NO NO
Luffy-bro: :-( I was just joking. I wanna pull out all my WW2 propaganda. "Stay in your houses, don't go outside"

...tbh it's hard to tell from a screenshot. there are times you provide an outline in the first section of an article to state what else it's going to be covered. which isn't too say the time throughout is great, but it's not completely nuts just a bit goofy
CChuuni
It's so cringe
CChuuni
You show don't tell
CChuuni
Yes provide an explanation of what you are going to show
CChuuni
to set it up
CChuuni
but don't LITERALLY SAY "I am going to [x]"
CChuuni
o_<
Exacerangutan
I mean I can dig up and link examples XD they did something not so weird, just kind of clumsily
Exacerangutan
in academic and scientific writing especially, tho, definitely also tell
Exacerangutan
in fact, often, tell at the beginning and then again at the end just to be totally clear what you wanted the reader to get out of it, because it's a format 100% meant to be didactic and above board, unlike fiction
Exacerangutan
so saying what you're going to say isn't especially weird
Exacerangutan
needing that as a lead in before citing one or two examples is kind of weird tho
Exacerangutan
"there are many examples of blah" is more typical than "and now in the next paragraph of this article that you are reading I will describe examples of blah"
Exacerangutan
but I guess if that's literally all the article is about it's not totally out of place
Exacerangutan
... the use of exclamation points is stylistically very strange though
Exacerangutan
you usually take pains to avoid a hyped-up tone in academic writing
CChuuni
Granted I know you need a closing statement but I'm now side-eyeing who taught you essay-writing
CChuuni
And yes the reason "there are many examples of [x]" is more common is because it's not done like an infant
Exacerangutan
CChuuni
Oh the original might be different in German though let me check something
CChuuni
Though I can't imagine how you mistranslate something like "Two examples of groups combatting antisemitism in gaming using [psyops] are [x] and [y]." into "In this article I will tell you about two examples of [z]"
CChuuni
Awesomesauce

CChuuni
I was in discussions with two of the translators tackling the article
Exacerangutan
//sends you to that first episode of the Granada Sherlock Holmes stories, where he has a line about how only a German would be so discourteous to his verbs//
