I’ve always called it the Netherlands
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Sands: the Dutch are the people that live in the Netherlands. All people from Holland (Hollanders) are Dutch Netherlanders but not all Netherlanders are Hollanders.
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
The language is also called Dutch but officially it’s call Nederlandse.

Don’t confuse me
Dutchie®
I always used the Netherlands over Holland. The Netherlands has something fairy tail-like
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Dutchie® : I try but not always successfully. Especially with character limitations on plurk. LOL
Besides technically I live in Holland (Noord Holland).
Dutchie®
Yeah, it feels different for the people outside of north and south holland.
Tanarian
Where does "Dutch" come from? I'm assuming it's related linguistically to "Deutsche".
Dutchie®
Basically, the british couldn't tell the germans and dutch apart :-) Dutch is West Germanic, along with German, English, etc.
Dutchie®
We call our language Nederlands. And the German language Duits. The germans call ours Niederländisch and theirs Deutsch. We have it straight over here
Tanarian
:-D
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Yup....the Dutch and Germans get it right. Everyone else screws it up. LOL and the Pennsylvania Dutch have nothing whatsoever to do with Dutch. They’re actually from Germanic descent. Very confusing.
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
This should help explain.
Holland vs the Netherlands
h ULee Weener
We also luv it when you put the e right behind the D in dutch so it spell deutch (germany) cos basically we are west west germany and sing so in our anthem
Tanarian
Pennsylvania Dutch got the name from speaking German and getting Americanized. ;-)
Vin
Being Dutch but from one of the provinces that is not one of the Hollands, I applaud this :-) I can't count the times of having had to explain the difference between Holland and the Netherlands.
sjonsvenson
But . . . No . . . But . . . . . . damn, we'll have to rewrite all our jokes now
sjonsvenson
Adding to the confusion. I come from Belgium, the Dutch speaking part, which is sometimes referred to as the Southern Netherlands - Zuidelijke Nederlanden- though we refer to our part of the country as Flanders, but . . .
Stereo Nacht
Ahem. In French, the language names are "Néerlandais" and "Allemand". So we get at least half of it right! ;-)
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Stereo Nacht : I learned it was Pays-Bas.
Vin
Pays-Bas is the country, Neerlandais the language. To make it even easier!
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Vin : yes that completely clears it up. LOL
Sam
I like holland better but it can be confusing also with the tropical islands by :-D
Otenth
Huh. I’ve always called it the Netherlands and had no idea any official Dutch communication would use Holland
Vin
entire football (soccer) stadiums filled with orange-clad people shouting "Holland"...
FREEarmStar🌟🎉
Vin : yeah that’s kinda sad. I guess it’s less syllables so easier to chant?
Vin
probably yeah
Tanarian
Three-syllable chant can really put some punch into the last one, though.
dkronfeld
At least they went with "lands" instead of "regions"
