It's just Patrick's backstory with like, all the incidents of his wondering if he's gay but just... there not being any way for him to KNOW. Which in someone else might've been enough? But just isn't.

I feel like there's a prevailing narrative that everyone either KNOWS or has experimented or whatever. And yet, when you bring stuff like this up, so many people are like "it me."
