[DW] I'm reading some thread where someone thought the 1st Doctor pulling a face about Bill was him being homophobic, and OOC considering the (lovely, well thought-out) gay companion they gave him in the audios

I'm wondering if that story was a lot more insidious and awful than I thought... I read it as him being shocked that she wasn't a virgin, which is a bit more One-ish (his attempts to make Vicki act like a lady, etc)

I don't think it was so much him being like "YOU CAN'T BE GAY!!!!!!1!" as

"omfg you shouldn't join in with the boys' talk I shouldn't even join in with this!"

I still hated it but

But he might also just have been shocked about the way she put it.

again it's probably forgiveable if not for how well BF did with Oliver Harper

I mean, there's a huge difference between creating a world in which someone from the time that the First Doctor's show aired can escape the fact that his identity is literally illegal with the help of the Doctor, and just ramping up the bigotry to go 'oh wasn't the past bad?' without doing anything with that.
