FossilTattoo
I was going back and reading stuff from December, and wanted to replurk this for the newcomers.
[FossilTattoo] - People, let me tell you 'bout my...
Dʀᴀʏ
Ha ha ha! Yeah!
Dʀᴀʏ
You've taken things to like the next level maybe three rises up from where I am, but that's totally rad.
Dʀᴀʏ
(Right now I have a huge file folder of 'fashion' that's a mix of what I'd like for me, or my characters, and then I just draw reams of fashion design on stick figures.)
Dʀᴀʏ
Do not have a sewing machine or I would probably branch out into trying to make this shit on occasion.
FossilTattoo
I just got this sewing machine last year, and I'm loving it. So much to make.
Dʀᴀʏ
I have a pile of buttons and need to make a run to the leather shop (and find some appropriate silk) to make some little cuffs and possible a choker -- if I can get it looking like... normal jewellery.
Dʀᴀʏ
And not just fetish gear. XD
FossilTattoo
Not only is it possible to make it look like both and neither, but it's my forte!
Dʀᴀʏ
True! And that's kind of my thought, though mostly I just like the idea of fanciful buttons sewn into supple leather with a silk underside for comfiness (and possibly flippability)
FossilTattoo
That's pretty recurring in my head as well. I like ornamental buttons.
FossilTattoo
The choker you want to make can have a brooch or concho on it, maybe some lace or dangly thin chain.
Dʀᴀʏ
Too much stuff for one.
Dʀᴀʏ
I would love to experiment with each of those (though maybe not the conch; not my style) individually though just to get a better feel of how they look on their own.
FossilTattoo
Dʀᴀʏ : This came to mind when you described it.
Dʀᴀʏ
That's gorgeous, but ultimately would fit my steampunk-liking friend way better than me. XD It's hard to find/make neat things that aren't themed on goth/victorian era/steampunk varietals!
Dʀᴀʏ
I guess I'm more whimsy oriented than badass.
FossilTattoo
I love victorian. I dislike the current "steampunk". That's a rant for another time.
Dʀᴀʏ
I may be using it in a blanket term way, the same that someone who doesn't know the complexity of rap music would call anything with people talking fast to music rap. XD
FossilTattoo
Yeah. And goodness knows Rap and Steampunk are currently very alike. Gotta wade through the mainstream shit to find the ones who're doing it right.
Dʀᴀʏ
Hah!!
Dʀᴀʏ
Well that's any field that you really enjoy.
Dʀᴀʏ
As specialized as you could ever want, it's still like that.
FossilTattoo
"Steampunk" wasn't always called that. It was better when it wasn't called that, tbh. If there was a gear or a piston or a bellows, it served a purpose. It was all part of a machine that did some task.
Dʀᴀʏ
Not just 'oh look, a bilion gears everywhere for no reason!'
Dʀᴀʏ
Yeah, I get that that can be irksome!
FossilTattoo
GOD, can it ever.
FossilTattoo
I understand that it's more for the look it evokes, but it's homogenized, watered down.
FossilTattoo
I remember clearly how it was at the start, when it was merely the "Jules Verne Age of Discovery and Technology"
FossilTattoo
It's so accessible now that there are premade bags of steampunk bits sold in art/jewelry stores! Little wings and gears and clock bodies.
FossilTattoo
Right next to the 'found objects" that you can buy in bags.
Dʀᴀʏ
Ha ha ha! Yeaaaah those.
Dʀᴀʏ
Someone's making a fucking mint.
FossilTattoo
It's sad.
FossilTattoo
If this is what defines someone as a "hipster" to merely remember when shit didn't suck like that, then guilty.
Dʀᴀʏ
I don't know what the definition is, if there ever was a real one?
Dʀᴀʏ
I don't really go in for judgey-judgepantsing if I can help it.
