Folks expecting some kind of grand epiphany and turnaround are going to be disappointed. I could almost certainly individually interview every Republican voter and hear expressions of regret or concern from most of them. And as soon as two or more come together they will double down in all of it and keep voting for the lot of them.

It does not feel any safer for folks inside the cult to disagree or break ranks than it does for folks outside it. And the conservatives have always been much more intent on following orders from the top.

And yet, they are the ones claiming that they must have guns in case their government turns against them. Ah, right. The current government is against (insert anything they don't consider themselves to be: gay, transgender, immigrants, etc.), so they agree with it.
