Also to my fellow trans folks: You will feel significantly hotter on T than you used to, and conversely you will tend to get chilly easier if you have started E/T-blockers. If this is your first year on HRT, pay careful attention to your body, because you have an entirely new normal to adjust to!
The heat wave has hit here already and I felt the warning signs earlier today and am on two of these so: be careful and keep an eye on yourselves out there!
Maybe. I just got so sick the other day >.< Went out for birthday stuff and wound up in the health services area for almost half the time we were there
Oh man, I feel slightly better about an incident last year where my 75 year old dad was FINE but I was DYING. (I am sure i was in no real danger but this explains it.)
It's so easy for it to happen too. We were chasing around and just sitting in the sun in an otherwise air conditioned car was making me overheat. I used to never
i brought this issue up with my psychiatrist the other day, and she advised that if i know im going out on a hot day, to pregame with a bunch of electrolytes such as gatorade or pedialyte, and then refill with water as needed
thank you for this, seriously! i had no idea, thought i was just being a weenie about the heat recently when there was a heat wave and felt like dying at work
Hi everyone, heat stroke is important to watch out for, but please remember that you may be more susceptible to getting sunburns as well. remember your sunscreen as well as hydrating.
and if you want a damn fine neck fan this is the one. I was comfortable in Florida heat with this bad boy and it lasted the entire day from rope drop to close at Disney World. https://www.amazon.com/...
in addition to wearing sunscreen, light clothes, and staying hydrated, having a hat or umbrella to shade your head will help you avoid heat- and sun stroke
^^ also regarding light clothes: remember natural fibers like cotton or linen are your friend. Polyester and nylon and other synthetic are not. If you're Business, I know it's hard with these clothes especially, but try to find options in your closet that are going to let your skin breathe
Most business collared shirts are cotton, never commute wearing your blazer, and I've had luck with thinly woven drapey polyester pants. No tight clothing 👍
I commented the last time this was posted to add that blood pressure and heart medications, including beta blockers and ACE inhibitors (I take both), have heat intolerance as a side effect. Diabetes medications, antifungals, antibiotics, diuretics, ADHD meds, and allergy meds are all suspect also
I am keeping my comments minimal this time to try and ensure that all of the additional information that others are providing stays easily available. And remember that if you're not sure if your medication will have adverse effects or not, you can always consult with your pharmacist!
that AARP link isn't working for me, but something that hasn't been mentioned that some of us might be on for various reasons is birth control medication, specifically the pill has sun sensitivity as a symptom so be careful if you're taking it, and especially if you're taking more than one medication that can cause it since the effects can be multiplicative
