Another day, another case of bsky progressives/leftists inadvertently encouraging people to do shit that will put them on the feds' radar...
Nox
I don't know what it is with that site in particular but it's almost as common as classified info getting leaked on War Thunder forums
Nox
Today's example was encouraging people to donate to Gaza by wiring money to a third party in a country still able to do business in the region, and have them then wire those funds to Gaza.

For the love of all that is holy, do not do that, that will ping so many different alphabet agencies with the government
Nox
Giving aid is good, but don't do it in a way that makes it look like you're trying to dodge sanctions
Nox
GoFundMe is able to host fundraisers because they have lawyers working for them to make damn sure they avoid that kind of attention. You personally wiring money from your bank account to somebody else? You probably do not have a team of lawyers to make sure you avoid the pain.
Nox
And that's just the legal consequences, on the financial side your bank can absolutely freeze all your accounts for an investigation (and no you will not be able to just open a new account somewhere else if they do)
Nox
Without exaggeration, even being indicted for this is life-ruining amounts of harm, you do not want that kind of attention.
Nox
Especially since look who's in charge of the government right now
Nox
(can't speak to any legal risk outside the US, but I strongly encourage anyone contemplating something like this to look into it before acting. Know what risk you're taking beforehand, you can't help anyone if you're locked up)
Nox
(if it's a risk you're fine with taking, by all means, but do not do what these people are doing and just mass suggesting people do something like this without saying what the danger is. This is "getting slapped with big boy felonies" danger.)
Nox
Not to mention the current government position that all aid is being stolen by Hamas (note: the government's position, not mine), which is still listed as a terrorist organization, that means you're also inviting a charge for providing material aid to a terrorist organization. Because they'll 100% argue that's what you were doing.
Nox
(again, something that can be largely avoided with things like GoFundMe or trusted NGOs)
Nox
Oh my god the person behind this has now suggested it'd be fine if you just make multiple smaller transfers

That's called "structuring" and don't do that either, that is something we're explicitly trained to look for.
Nox
Hell, I'm pretty sure most banks have their systems set up to look for that
Nox
If you're making multiple transfers to the same place and you're staying under the reporting amount each time, that literally invites extra scrutiny.
Dragon Journal
wtf
StupidSexyV⚠der
How to scream to the alphabets that you're supporting terrorists, fucking shit.
Nox
The one behind it's now also threatening to sue the lawyers informing people of all the reasons this is a very bad idea that invites serious legal trouble. For defamation, somehow.
StupidSexyV⚠der
Nox
She's still going and I'm just here on my lunch break screaming in Bank Employee
Nox
Desperately hoping her followers will listen
Nox
You can't help anyone if your finances all get frozen because you're showing AAAAAAALL the signs of money laundering, even if you don't have illegal aims
Nox
and when that happens, you can't just pick up and move to another bank. You are on EVERYONE'S shit list.
Nox
And the banks are obligated to report it.
StupidSexyV⚠der
yeah
Nox
We've reached the "inadvertently posting about our financial crimes online" stage among the people foolish enough to volunteer

Nox
Generally speaking, you don't want to admit to structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements.

You definitely don't wanna write down anywhere that's what you're doing.

And you CERTAINLY don't fucking post about it online
Darth Imperious
She helpfully threw a tantrum in a thread on this I was reading (I think it's one you also found), which let me block her without going to find her.
Nox
The one in the screenshot's not the source of this, just one of the volunteers convinced to take part.
Darth Imperious
Yeah, I'm not referring to the person in the screenie but the dumbass who kicked this off. >_>
Nox
Worth noting that the mandatory reporting requirements for the methods this person used are triggered at sending any amount from $2000 up.

I wonder why the recipient wasn't able to claim the $2000 transfer but could claim smaller ones
Nox
(also, this person needs to shut up and hire a lawyer right the fuck now)
StupidSexyV⚠der
yeah i WONDER why
Nox
You'll all be shocked to find out the person suggesting this has apparently already admitted she's not actually taking part in this plan herself, she just needs volunteers to do so.

Wonder why that could be.
