在23歲的Ivan鼓起勇氣告知哥哥他交到36歲的女朋友之後,兄弟情誼危機從話不投機升級成關係決裂,而後劇情主要著重於兩人分別在人生及感情路途上的迷惘與難題,最後才兜回家人關係,不過彼此間其實一直微妙地相互對照;而且即使當事人強烈否認,全然相反的兄弟實際上也有極其相似的部分——這點跟我家姊妹好像,只要別人說像,都會鄭重駁斥XD
既然這本書名為間奏曲,我們姑且將它看作一首曲子吧,作者經常運用連綿不絕的語句疊加(兩三頁才換段是常態),將節奏從Andante追趕至Presto,藉以彰顯氣氛的張力變化、人物內心的迫切、思緒的紊雜等,間或編入細碎的切分音來呈現人物(尤其是Peter)的內心風暴,字裡行間盡是豐富的韻律感。
但要說最喜歡誰,也並沒有,只是我想打個預防針,周旋在兩女之間的Peter可能不太討喜,但其實我更懂他的痛苦,也很認同他在痛苦中依然死命掙扎的求生意志,看見他在即將崩潰之際向超級不對盤的母親求援,不再扮演完美、假裝自己什麼都做得到,就為他鬆了口氣;相比之下,書裡的女人精神力還真是無比強大呢。

過往我常使用略讀的方式閱讀英文書,也就是盡量不去管生字,從劇情的脈略中大多可以推測意思,不過Rooney沒辦法耶,少了一個字就會掉拍、不成調,所以我紙本書看了一章就滾去買電子書了~
