DEAR CLOTHING CREATORS: Please go back to the method of wearing your items in all sizes before you release and using poses that bend the arms, bend the knees, bend your waist etc, the amount of solid (can be alpha'd) SHEER & NET (CANNOT BE ALPHA'd)
SasyScarborough
items I demo that have elbows pushing out of the mesh is too much. The item is not purchasable, there is nothing a customer can do other than lock their arms to their sides. If their ao's don't bend when demoing they don't catch it.

Thank you, we know rigging is hard, but this is so often now.
Allegory
is it alpha-able?
Dakota 🐦‍⬛🪵
I thought elbows could be alpha'ed out? I get like when it is a wonky fit with the alpha cut, but folks still use alphas
Gogo ♔
on it cannont, its fishnet
SasyScarborough
Allegory : sheer is not alphaable neither is net, if you alpha out your elbow your elbow is then gone, and the item of clothing is showing your body, if solid I would not have an issue, i make all my own bom alphas
SasyScarborough
Dakota 🐦‍⬛🪵 : its Sheer or Net I am talking about, as in you can see the body under the clothing if you alpha it you can see you alphad it
Dakota 🐦‍⬛🪵
Oh
Allegory
SasyScarborough : yeah, if it can't be alphaed, that's a problem! some people don't ever want to use alphas, which is silly- but you've gotta rig/build things differently when it's not an option.
SasyScarborough
Allegory : right, just dont have long sleeves if you can't hide the elbow or in the case of the top i tried on they could have made that area a band of solid, it would have worked perfectly...but its every other time I try anything with a long sleeve that is fitted, how are they not seeing it, the only thought is they upload rez on the ground pick up & pack
SasyScarborough
and staff, what are staff doing, that was my thing while other parts were being done, I would check all sizes run through many poses and dances, there are things you cant fix but a bent elbow you can
Allegory
maybe you have a pose that you use that's twisting the elbow more than normal? extreme poses (which don't even have to look extreme) can screw things up and they may not notice it in testing. of course, the other issue is that there are a number of brands in SL that are largely checked out of SL, so they don't test.
Mmw Strangelove
Totally right. I have some stuff now where the elbows poke out if you bend your arms. The sleeves are sheer and have no solid option. You can alpha your body elbow but with the sheer you can just see a hole in your arm. I suspect the creators have t-rex arms in their usual shape maybe. Or maybe mine are super long?
Gogo ♔
bending an arm to hold a thing is not an extreme pose imo, some of them are just sloppy
Allegory
Gogo ♔ : the problem is the way the elbow joint (and the wrist joint) twist and bend to, well, be able to actually hold anything. it's totally not unreasonable to expect it to work BUT it's actually pretty hard to test, the range there is....shall we say "interesting"
Allegory
there isn't any way to not ever clip- even perfectly rigged if the points are not literally in exactly the same place, without any offset even, it's going to clip sometimes. however if things are clipping too much, either you're doing it wrong or that thing you are trying cannot work and you should not do it.
Allegory
and yeah, some absolutely are sloppy. it's one of the reasons why if i see an ad generated in a 3d program outside of SL, i rarely pay any attention to it.
Allegory
if you're rigging for Daz models...i'm not expecting you to bother to test for SL, you aren't invested in it.
SasyScarborough
Allegory : wasnt really planning on showing examples, not wanting to name and shame etc, but as you can see here, they built too close to the body regardless of intention, it is possible its a full perms top that was not made with sheer in mind

tormentedcorpse
are you saying that you think people aren't testing their rigs at all?
tormentedcorpse
oh, that's the clipping you're referring to? I would consider that within the range of acceptable tolerance, depending on what pose or AO you are in
Allegory
that sort of thing is why i'm more into BoM than mesh for most "sheer" things, in all honesty, though it's not the most popular take from all the people making mesh stockings. that is generally too close for a non alpha'ed item, especially if you're at altitude.
SasyScarborough
tormentedcorpse : when the arm is bent the whole elbow is outside of the shirt, so not acceptable anything.
SasyScarborough
tormentedcorpse : I am saying that these people cannot possibly be, because nothing has to be done to see that its part of body outside of clothing, no exaggerated anything and this is about the 5th item like this its happened with in the last month or so, so all those purchases thankfully did not happen
tormentedcorpse
ah ok I’m just going off the photo you posted.
SasyScarborough
tormentedcorpse : yeah that one was to show, how it was not a case of an exaggerated animation causing it, it was just so close to body, was not intending to pic at all :-)
