I said goodbye to my niece. I told her I was proud of her, proud of all the beauty she gave the world (she is the one who made all those quilts) and proud of her courage. Three times she said "I'm fine." Such a Minnesotan.

She joked she was a vampire, all the blood she's getting. I joked that technically vampires drink the blood. I said she was loved by so many people. That she left a mark on the world. A light of beauty and art.

Then I said goodbye because there are so many relatives and she's only allowed one person at a time in her room and I was taking her dad's time.

God, my brother. His oldest.

Awww, I am sorry. Saying goodbye takes courage.
