I am not doing that book rec meme because my goal this year is flat-out one book a month to begin with, and I haven't finished an actual book in like five years, but if anyone wants to share recs, I will take them.

I have a nonfiction book about musical theater I got for Christmas I want to try to read in January; I think I'm gonna give taking out American Gods another shot, and I may buckle and buy Fraternity cause I keep seeing it pop up alongside Bare discussions and I want to know how much of that is strictly due to the real-life connection vs plot elements. XD

But it really has been years since I was reading consistently, mostly because it's just been hard to concentrate/pull myself away from multitasking to do something so strictly focused.

i feel this pain. it's only within the last year i've been able to read more actual novels again after a decade of not being able to.

I tend more towards fantasy/sci-fi, I like horror in theory but will probably research it first to make sure I won't give myself panic attacks, and I like fiction over non-fiction but occasionally can get into things, but I will try pretty much anything if it sounds interesting.

: <3 It's really frustrating, cause it used to be I'd read like 12 books in a week and now it feels like aiming for that in a year is a lot :/
cityscape
yeah, that feeling is so relatable.

For a while there I was at least keeping up with yearly series releases, so that had me reading books sometimes even if it was less often, but I fell off that hard a few years back.

i still mostly read poetry-ish works and books by authors whose style i know i like.
cityscape
reading "unknown" stuff is still like pulling teeth.

: I do get into poetry occasionally -- I usually buy 3-4 new books from Button every April when they do their big sale, but even that I've been mostly buying and not touching for a while now. I got books I was so excited for and I haven't even cracked them this year.

candycigarettes: Ooooh, I will put that on my possibilities look. I go back and forth with nonfiction a little, but generally if it's written engagingly, I have no issues with poking at it.
Fat turkeys
The one book I will recommend EVERYONE is Kushiel's Dart, especially if they like fantasy!
