Well, maybe not the yarn. Bob was quite experimental when younger. He built his own double-neck electric. He invented the harmonic capo (that a guitarist in Germany had come up with at about the same time).

I thought the floss had a very nice sound to it, at least as recorded.

Bob used to put all sorts of things on his guitar (paper clips, whatever) to achieve some sort of sound.
