My laptop has decided that, as a security measure, it will lock me out of signing in if it shuts down without having the option selected from the start menu.

As in "if I open it up and walk away, it will lock sign ins."

The other option is to use a PIN, which I never have for this, or keep it powered on, avoiding automatic shutdowns, for two solid hours.

I didn't select this as an option

why the fuck would I pick this as a security option

"Oh, you walked away and I shut off a few times in two hours. Time to lock myself."
Platinum
"If you know your Microsoft account and get an internet connection, maybe I'll let you on faster"
Platinum
"You don't know what account you used? Not my problem, sweaty :-)"

Who thought that DRM for a laptop was a good idea?

This doesn't happen on my desktop!

This is just pissing me off again because it's reminding me how I logged into a Microsoft account on mt desktop to check something about Minecraft (haven't played in years, just making sure the account didn't get purged) and suddenly my Office suite stops functioning and locks me out of all of my Office programs

Btw, using my phone as a mobile hot spot just earns me a "connect your device to the internet and log in" message
