Once you remember that his full name is "Sergei Kravinoff", and think "how did they do Russians speaking English in the 60s", it sort of makes sense.

I feel like it comes from an anti-sport hunting notion of "hiding in a blind all day and shooting helpless animals is pretty cowardly", in a Doylist sense
