Snake-Kun
[SM2] something that always bugged me a bit about Kraven, conceptually
Snake-Kun
(Yes I know Kraven exists outside of this game in the comics but it’s where I know him from)
Snake-Kun
But like
Snake-Kun
Kraven is a cool fearless hunter
Snake-Kun
Craven
Snake-Kun
Is a word meaning “pathetic and cowardly”
Snake-Kun
Like who named this character
Snake-Kun
Why did you make his name sound like the word for pathetic loser
Snake-Kun
It’s like if you wrote a big tough gladiator type who’s signature weapon was a big hammer and named him Bashful
Snake-Kun
“BECAUSE HE BASHES THINGS, YOU SEE”
DehydratedWater
Stan Lee and/or Steve Ditko named him. Kraven comes from super early in the Spiderman comics
DehydratedWater
like, issue 15 early
Snake-Kun
Kraven the craven
bird time
A big bruiser guy named Bashful sounds pretty fun
bird time
Gap moe
Frightpatine
You misunderstand; he's cravin' a good hunt.
Snake-Kun
o ok
Snake-Kun
My mistake
ReJenerator
Once you remember that his full name is "Sergei Kravinoff", and think "how did they do Russians speaking English in the 60s", it sort of makes sense.
Snake-Kun
Right but like he's not a real person
ReJenerator
no, he isn't, but I'm pretty sure they came up with his name that way.
Rama
I feel like it comes from an anti-sport hunting notion of "hiding in a blind all day and shooting helpless animals is pretty cowardly", in a Doylist sense
Rama
In a Watsonian sense they just gave him a weird name that could be shortered to Kraven to justify it
