Iirc the reasoning was that all four heroes would be teleported to deadly waves of monsters, but the shield hero can’t use anything BUT the shield and because this is one of those fantasy worlds that runs on video game rules, he therefore can’t gain exp by himself and was basically doomed to die underleveled because nobody would party with him... but yeah

Back when I was watching it I did give the show the benefit of a doubt because lower-levels = shitty skills, higher levels = more variety, is just typical RPG logic, but it ultimately doesn’t save the show any positive points. I’m basically playing devils advocate here, but let’s not misunderstand, I also think this shit sucks.
