[work] deleted the anxiety plurk to instead say WOW that meeting actually went really well
Yale Sale →
like, really well
Yale Sale →
like it somehow went really well and then it went extra well on top of that
Yale Sale →
SEE STICK?? sometimes talking with people doesn't end in crippling embarrassment or verbally flailing because I've forgotten what words mean halfway through trying to express a thought
→ yard sard
SEE STICK

but yeah a chunk of my job in Corporate America is helping manage asset data for North America sites, which sounds cool but mostly amounts to me correcting things in very large spreadsheets.
Yale Sale →
at first it was just like, adding new assets to the system or like, fixing a data error if someone notices it's got the wrong floor number on it or something
Yale Sale →
but the more my team has been digging into things the more we've noticed areas where the data is just... incomprehensibly fucked up.
Yale Sale →
my meeting was with my boss to say "hey... we're finding big problems that are taking literal days to fix... can I maybe... shunt these issues back to the global asset team?"
Yale Sale →
the global team, traditionally, has been very hard to work with and very resistant to taking on any workload in any capacity.
Yale Sale →
but my boss was like ABSOLUTELY
Yale Sale →
I have full permission to send the complicated stuff up to him, and he has already been negotiating with HIS bosses to get them to make the global team actually do their job.
Yale Sale →
AND he was able to give me some pretty clear guidelines for the work
Yale Sale →
AND he told me exactly what to say when I escalate things
→ yard sard
whoa!
Yale Sale →
AND he shared some stuff he's been working on that'll make my remaining workload much easier?
Yale Sale →
AND he mentioned there'll be a lead role opening up next year that he thinks I'd be really great at and I'm actually kind of interested??
Yale Sale →
AND he mentioned that in speaking with our account director, said account director both knows who I am and has complimented my work???
Yale Sale →
SPECIFICALLY calling out him saying that everyone thinks I'm really pleasant to work with and that he's only heard good things about my performance????
Yale Sale →
like I went in hoping to look at fewer spreadsheets and left with the bizarre knowledge that one of the highest status people in my company knows who I am and that I'm a delight to work with
Yale Sale →
𝕘𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕟 𝕤𝕝𝕚𝕞𝕖
that rules!!!!
spooky wooper
that's so great!

YAYYYY
pluviophile
you know what, i like this too that there's a role you might be interested in, that won't make you move from your current position
pluviophile
you can just chill out for another year doing a job you don't mind
Yale Sale →
yeah I like the idea of this one way better than the last one, and I have lots of time to kind of prep for it...
pluviophile
tbh when we talked about it it's like... wild to me that they were like "you should apply for this!!" when you REALLY haven't been in your current position for very long at all
pluviophile
a year is a nice amount of time to really assess where you're at and if you want more
Yale Sale →
yeah, they're kind of desperate to get folks moved up to fill positions around here. I wish this was new but turnover has always been a problem.
Yale Sale →
but yeah, I like having more time to settle, especially considering that my position kinda... changed halfway through the year anyway.
Yale Sale →
or my job description changed, I should say
pluviophile
it is fine to want to go slower and smell the roses on the way
