[vidya] Which is the best classic Mario game out of these two? Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario World?
Bob Netherlands
I wanna see what people think
serving count
oh woof that's a hard one
serving count
I wanna say.... 3
serving count
but that might just be cuz I played it more as a bitty jess
Bob Netherlands
Yeah. Agreed. The only thing I think SMW has over SM3 is the ability to replay stages
♓︎ᴍᴇɢᴀɴᴇ ʟɪsᴀ♌︎
for me it's an unfair comparison because game design shifted pretty radically in that short time
Bob Netherlands
Comparison? I’m asking what people like more
♓︎ᴍᴇɢᴀɴᴇ ʟɪsᴀ♌︎
I'm talking about my personal opinion here. I can't choose because there are elements of each that I like a lot
Jeff Laguna
...3 is more solidly made I feel but I also have more fun with World
Jeff Laguna
World was the first time I really stuck with a platformer to the end, so that probably has a lot to do with it
♓︎ᴍᴇɢᴀɴᴇ ʟɪsᴀ♌︎
3 I definitely spent more time playing growing up, so I occasionally lean slightly in that direction, but World added so much neat detail and polish and a level of flexibility that still hasn't really been improved upon in 2D Mario platformers since
Dr. Min▲zuki
I've always favored smw, but I think that's a function of it being the one that sml2 more closely resembles

I love them both but 3 is more of a Foundational Game for me

3 is the first Mario game I beat and there's just things about that game in terms of items/stage aesthetics that remain undefeated for me
Ring Racer
My vote is also 3.

3. bias bc it's the one I played as a kid.

World for me, but that's Tiny Vin Bias
S̸C̴R̴A̸T̵C̴H̵
It was the first SNES game I played ever!
DoveEaterXC
World because I didn't have video games until SNES
Ken
3.

I did this poll once, and was sorely disappointed.
DoveEaterXC
I still haven't played much smb3
Ken
3 felt landscape changing at the end of a console’s life which is very impressive even now. SMW builds off it, and you don’t get it without 3, but also I’ve always felt even as a kid that it had less variety, both in environments and power ups, which always has me gravitate back to 3, especially once All Stars was out.
RobotApocalypse
World. it's the one i've spent more time in, know it inside and out, and also i never managed to beat 3 but i can 100% world
RobotApocalypse
also yoshis add so much to the gameplay
RobotApocalypse
i also think things like alternate level exits and star road shortcuts add to a sense of exploration in SMW that SMB3 doesn't really have
RobotApocalypse
like yeah there's secrets to find in 3 but you don't have that same feeling of seeing a warp pipe on the map and going "hm, i wonder what i have to do to open the path to that" and then trying as many obscure side-paths in nearby levels as you can find to try and figure out where the secret level exit is
RobotApocalypse
also being able to queue up a backup powerup that you could swap between was very cool and i don't think any mario game since has done that, to my knowledge
RobotApocalypse
3 has its own charms but it's not the game i go to when i'm in the mood for classic mario. world is a big comfort game for me
