and there's just this thing that they do. where there is not allowed to be any mystery or tension with the characters. oh is there a character HIDING something- anyway here's their whole entire deal by the end of the same episode it was introduced in
first episode was...stilted in line delivery and moderately unconvincing. second episode better! I can see potential! dropped the ball real hard by the end, weirdly. third episode had one (1) neat idea and then everything else was such absolute garbage what the fuck. fourth episode good if kind of unnecessarily bloated
I still hold that anson mount pike is so fucking attractive. and he as a character is a cute dad type. his voice tho? and when he's doing captainly line deliveries? doesn't do anything for me
lift us where suffering cannot reach was...fine, I just...I dunno, I kept expecting it to pull the rug out from under me? to do a twist? to do something I couldn't predict?
but it's literally just omelas in space. and the stuff that's more trek than le guinn was all stuff that I felt was fairly easy to see coming. is that a failure of the writing, or am I as a writer and reader both just at a point where I can pick these things up easily? idk just, I love omelas, but I was hoping for it to be something more or else
the actual uhhhhh storytelling is not good tho. it feels like they didn't trust their audience and didn't trust that they'd get a 2nd season, so they have to spell everything out and also speedrun stories
also [throws up hands] cool no wonder hemmer didn't have a fucking speedran character arc let's kill off the one character I had most interest in and knew least about
-the freaky friday comedy, and
-the fairytale pseudo-comedy
like this show does funny really well
