Pope suggests blessings for same-sex unions possible...

I saw this headline and have such mixed feelings. Of course, I am not Catholic and not LGBTIQA, so it doesn't impinge on my life. My first thought was what good news this was. I read the article. My second reaction is why is this news? Why do we care what the Pope thinks about anything?

Then I thought how we empower people whose actions are antithetical to liberation by caring what they think. How can there be real liberation while even people like me who don't believe in this stuff are moved by what the Pope thinks?

Being born any type of different in a Catholic family can be extremely difficult. Having the Pope suggest that it is okay to be who you are, can make a massive impact on so many. Is it silly that one human person can decide what is or isn't okay? Yes, of course. Is it helpful, esp with the older generations? Goodness, yes.

Being accepted seems like a ridiculous thing to worry about but so many it is a difference between life or death. Which obv is a given that we all understand. I'm hoping that as we keep growing and evolving, things like this will just be like reading about big foot. And yep, I'm a Catholic

The church is the most ass backwards institution that there is. My best friend in NY is gay and he came out to friends when we met and a couple years later to his family. have him volunteer for the least wanted responsibilities. All of his sons (single dad) are church fosters that he adopted. When they were looking for housing for special needs kids, his number was at the top of the list. Such hypocrisy! Sorry, this still just makes me super mad.

The Church is very don’t ask don’t tell about a lot of things and like there’s not enough young blood in the priesthood to really drown out these bigots
