SeeYouInShibuya
Horimiya ~piece~ feels outdated - and other Summer 2023 anime
SeeYouInShibuya
Okay so Horimiya originally aired, idk I want to say 3 years ago
SeeYouInShibuya
But I'd have to check.
SeeYouInShibuya
I didn't love it
SeeYouInShibuya
I loved it in the beginning actually, but as it went on it went downhill and I hated the ending so overall it was fine.
SeeYouInShibuya
I didn't need a season two
SeeYouInShibuya
frankly having seen piece - nobody needed a season 2
SeeYouInShibuya
Piece is a bunch of side stories that got cut out of the main story for the adaptation and boy was that originally a good call
SeeYouInShibuya
The humour is very dated.
SeeYouInShibuya
Even for anime, some of these jokes you just don't really see them in more modern stories anymore
SeeYouInShibuya
(manga is not very progressive, but more recent titles have backed off of the gay people are jokes for being gay train a little bit - so to see it used here pretty liberally is dating the story, like a lot.)
SeeYouInShibuya
I was easily able to peg he era in which this manga was written based on this
SeeYouInShibuya
It has the Fruits Basket vibes circa 2006 (it was written 2007 so I was bang on)
SeeYouInShibuya
And it kind of threw me a bit? Because I was like it's 2023 I wasn't expecting this (LOL)
SeeYouInShibuya
In any case that's on me for not really knowing the story
SeeYouInShibuya
And the other half was about trampling over everyone's boundaries
SeeYouInShibuya
And trying to get Miya naked
SeeYouInShibuya
It's a weird series
SeeYouInShibuya
My problem with Horimiya is that I liked Miya before he met her. I liked that he had a personality that wasn't Generic Male Protag 96
SeeYouInShibuya
He had a look, he had a history and ultimately he casts all of that aside for her and starts dressing and acting like Generic Male Protag
SeeYouInShibuya
And then they get engaged right out of high school and I was like you can do better
SeeYouInShibuya
Oh and the casual her beating on him yeah that's funny or something >.>
SeeYouInShibuya
So needless to say I had problems. I didn't think it was a good story
SeeYouInShibuya
Season two gets into weird characterization problems that just have me scratching my head
SeeYouInShibuya
Like Miya supports the student...council...president guy? The redhead.
SeeYouInShibuya
He supports him not getting undressed in gym class but then some episodes later the redhead is trying to strip him to see why Miya won't get undressed
SeeYouInShibuya
Bizarre bizarre stuff.
SeeYouInShibuya
Anyway somewhere around a 5 or 6/10
SeeYouInShibuya
This has no reason to exist, I'm not sure why it does.
SeeYouInShibuya
Alright let's mop up these final episodes I've got kicking around before I throw on something in full
SeeYouInShibuya
Ideally I need to finish like idk, 4 shows today but that sounds like a lot
SeeYouInShibuya
We'll see how it goes
SeeYouInShibuya
Alright I stand by my stance on The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses
SeeYouInShibuya
That was a nothing show with nothing of substance and boring as heck.
SeeYouInShibuya
Done.
SeeYouInShibuya
Terrible.
SeeYouInShibuya
No I don't know why it's so highly rated XD
SeeYouInShibuya
Let's wrap up Ayakashi Triangle
SeeYouInShibuya
I love this OP by the way - like most of the Winter OPs it's great
SeeYouInShibuya
The ED is pretty good too
SeeYouInShibuya
I don't know the over arching plot is decent, gratuitous ecchi aside
SeeYouInShibuya
It's definitely under the 'Fine' banner
SeeYouInShibuya
XD
