[Rant, some Starfield Spoilers] Watching streamers for background noise while I grind...

Just saw someone get to the Starfield "Twist".

I have never wanted a refund for a game that I don't own so badly in my life.

You know in Mass Effect 2, how they ham-fistedly shove everyone into a shuttle-craft so that they can orchestrate an attack on your home base without you having anything you can do about it?

Somehow.

THAT

Was better written than the Starfield one.

SPOILERS BEGIN HERE

I especially love how they go about pointedly splitting up your companions ahead of time, as if that weren't telegraphing.

But the mechanic itself...

"You have to choose which companions you can save, and which ones have the risk of dying." is so played out even when it's well written.

And this one ISN'T WELL WRITTEN.

It's especially egregious that Bethesda seems to think that "Oh, we'll just kill the one with the highest relationship value in the place you didn't go" is somehow... good?

At least Mass Effect 2 had detailed mechanics in the background of who lived and who died in the suicide mission.

The villain isn't even especially impressive. They make Kai Leng look like Admiral Thrawn.
