OP is so long that I actually think a shorter adaptation in general is not a bad idea, to make the canon more accessible to newbies and they've done a great job with this one so I'm enjoying it
YEAH i deffo appreciate that it's been an accessible entry point for people! I certainly haven't been able to genuinely recommend OP to people for years bc it's so damn long
not to mention the way they truncate things in this does make a lot of sense. there's a LOT of filler in the anime, and it streamlines a lot of manga stuff too (Garp didn't show up at all until several hundred chapters further in)
There are a lot of cool smoothing to the characterization. I went and revisited Zoro and Nami's manga introductions for comparison and the LA makes all of it a lot... better? For how the three work as a cohesive trio?
yeah. I think it's really interesting how they let Luffy's insecurities and uncertainty peek through way more, without taking away from the fact that he's still a hyper-optimistic chaos agent
I do wish they kept the elements of Nami's backstory where Bellemere was given the out of Genzo saying "oh those plates were me and a friend coming over for dinner" instead of her being just kinda cornered into it And then Arlong finding Nami's maps and forcing her into his crew, rather than a child marching into a very obviously bad deal
Usopp gets mostly put into Comic Relief by way of toning down everyone else, which makes sense, but i'm just hoping with whatever they do next he gets more limelight because this boy is trying so damn hard and i love him
I think Nami having the agency on that one works better, because her choices kinda define... everything? In the story? And Nami deciding to make the horrible sacrifice and shoulder it alone just kinda says she's got a lot of heart (even if at 8 she didn't have a lot of sense).
also it made me like sanji so that's a big improvementand they've done a great job with this one so I'm enjoying it
I will never stop harping on LA Nami doing so much more burgling and thieving than she EVER DOES in the other iterations)And then Arlong finding Nami's maps and forcing her into his crew, rather than a child marching into a very obviously bad deal
