so, for those that don't know Steve Harwell of smash mouth went to high school with a woman who watched me grow up and is like an aunt to me and he spent some time at her house when we'd be there for shindigs or w/e

he was a really cool dude. very Adam sandler in the way that he had no entourage and never even mentioned his success if it wasn't a part of an ongoing conversation

he was just a genuinely laid back easy going human being

I'm sad to hear of his passing even though the family got a heads up when he moved into hospice care about two weeks ago

I was like 15-16 the last time I saw him and he was still just the same very cool respectable and chill

not many people know him outside of Shrek but I'll know him as the guy that chased away some neighborhood douchebag that was known for dating underage girls saying "we ain't got cool aid here," and just generally being a respectable influence.

I'm sure he's got his share of bad publicity but I really appreciated him and his presence will definitely be missed.

I was devastated when I heard about him today. I know their entire first album by heart, my parents had it on CD. I listened to it so much growing up.
