I'm watching a video about tobyfox and the fnaf guy and here's a sobering thing I learned about Deltarune

when tobyfox was an early aspiring dev

he had a really vivid dream about the ending of a video game

and he felt that he had to, no matter what, make a game with that ending

so then, he made Undertale,

as a small-scale test of his abilities

to practice for making the game that literally came to him in a prophetic dream

everything we've seen in deltarune is building towards the most spectacular ending that tobyfox has ever envisioned

Tobyfox made one of the most influential video games of our time as a warm-up

the scene that's the reason he made undertale

as a training arc

I'm not ready for it

whatever it is, no one will be prepared for it

I don't want to be prepared for it

it could be the most cliche and trite ending, as bargain bin as the guy to your left, and it will still leave us gobsmacked

I also didn't know that the first time MEGALOVANIA ever played, it was immediately preceded by a homophobic slur

Toby's love for the song vs his desire to bury his edgy romhack from age 16

toby is not fond of Earthbound Halloween Hack

yeah it is 100% a creation of a teenager online trying to be maximum edgy so like. he has clearly grown up a lot since.

Well, whether that ending he envisioned will be more spectacular than Undertale is remained to be witnessed, since it's the viewers who will decide that.
But I'm saying this not to downplay Toby's approach, and more so to remember and remind to keep expectations in check. As some wise drag queen said:
"Expectations are premeditated disappointments."
