i just saw this too, it sounds like maybe one of the issues is that he changed some code and that fucked everything up because he didn't check with anyone who knew what they were doing
but yeah he can afford to fuck up and make dumb, off the cuff decisions. I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of those got him to where he is today, and the dumb moves he made in the past have been smoothed over and forgotten
no, honestly, the whole problem is when these platforms get owned by mega corps or brainless billionaires who actually know nothing of how to run a business.
You aren't buying features to make the use of the platform palatable (like ad free, or allowing for more data). You're basically buying neat ways to dress up your tumblr... and I think video game skins/outfits have proven that is a very profitable business model
