There are excerpts of some extremely TERFy stuff in here and I get that it's to educate and show how far inclusive femininity has come but. ... wow, I keep tuning out because it upsets me.

I was hoping for stories about individual figures, touchstone stuff. But this is just "yeah this is how maddening the last hundred years in America are, so you can really be mad about it"

So basically, it's a good record of the history of the perception of being trans in America? But it isn't the actual record of trans figures through that history that I was hoping for.

There are a few people that were mentioned by name - mostly MTF because they tended to be "more visible" to put it as best my brain can manage - but mostly it's "and then these people said these awful things oh and hey also Stonewall, yeah? Stonewall."

Yeah, it really was. I got a couple other book recs out of it only because it mentioned them in passing ... one of them is the first autobio by a trans man ... and it's out of print. /sigh
