FʀᴏᴍTʜᴇFɪʀᴇ

fae bells

raspberrydrink
ty!
fae bells
it's actually really good? I'm struggling with encounter building since obvs Fodlan is lower fantasy than DnD is built for but like
fae bells
since 90% of Fodlan is human, you get the abilities bonuses and languages based on where you're born
fae bells
so like Faerghus humans get a bonus to strength, Dagdans get a bonus to dex, etc
fae bells
and there's homunculous, lesser Nabatean, and Argathan options too
fae bells
gives examples of how to make warlocks and clerics work too
fae bells
(does also take from FEH a little, notably when trying to explain fey and Sylvan the guide goes "hey so Alfr is a thing in FEH, we're using that)
Kayskringle
AH, BOYS. (And girls. And theys.) So here's the thing about that FF14 homebrew.
Kayskringle
That thing feels so very NICE to read, and captures a lot of class fantasies and features so well, that very niceness is the rub.
Kayskringle
It wouldn't be enough to run that FF14 homebrew in any old DnD campaign, no. It'd HAVE to be Eorzea. You'd (or I) would need to overhaul any modules you planned on using pretty thoroughly to keep that Feels Good momentum going.
Kayskringle
Which... Don't get me wrong. One of the pet projects I have on the backburner is seeing if I could overhaul Storm King's Thunder to be about Primals rather than giants. Or Out of the Abyss to deal more with Voidsent. OR. Rime of the Frostmaiden to be Ishgard focused.
Kayskringle
I'm just also "GUYS PLEASE LET ME FINISH CUSTOMIZING AND RUNNING STRYXHAVEN FIRST. That's my main pet project at the moment, please let me tackle this one before I do something as crazy as an FF14 overhaul."
FʀᴏᴍTʜᴇFɪʀᴇ
I... feel like there's an assumption there that everyone who runs runs module-based campaigns?
Kayskringle
I reiterate "you (or I)"
Kayskringle
Because I sure as hell don't have the metal bandwidth to make something from scratch.
Kayskringle
And I... Feel like there's an assumption that everyone else who runs, looks down on module-based campaigns?
FʀᴏᴍTʜᴇFɪʀᴇ
I have no strong opinions on module-based as a general thing, though they're not what I choose to run. but your comments come off very "because this is how I run, everyone must run this way, and look how much extra work it would be to use that, for the gameplay style I use as a GM."
FʀᴏᴍTʜᴇFɪʀᴇ
in a way that ultimately comes off very "I have come to pop your excitement balloon."
Kayskringle
Fine, fine, "you as the metaphorical you, which I will now spell out explicitly as the metaphorical to explain that I'm excited at this prospect but apparently this analogy doesn't fly with everyone else, so they have to come in and pop MY excitement balloon."
Kayskringle
sheesh man. I'm just going "man I LOVE this homebrew so much, but this would be a really big complicated project for me to run."
Kayskringle
(Sorry for cluttering up your plurk with this slap fight, btw)
