Uh, well, so last night about this time I went to the basement. At the bottom of the stairs, I got a whiff of something unpleasant. Lo and behold, the sewer had backed up, leaving water and muck over about a quarter of the floor. A shallow layer visible but the squishy floor indicated water underneath. Thank goodness the plumber makes emergency calls.
