[cartoons] [NEG BUT IT'S DUMB NEG] okay i have the PETTIEST PETTIEST GRIPE about a new cartoon i want to spew, no shade to who all likes it and also i'm def not the age demographic
i'm sure it doesn't help that i don't like robo centered stuff in general but this slap me so hard back into high school/early college in the worst way possible
tbh i am still highkey ... impressed? something like impressed i guess, that this has reached a point of cult-or-otherwise success such to call it a new cartoon
i got recced the pilot/first episode back when it premiered somehow and i remember thinking there was something inexplicably usefully idiosyncratic and endearing in there somewhere buried under its layers of narrative amateurishness and inability to fully realize one idea when it wanted to have four
but then also thinking it was aestheticslly speaking a kind of sincerely oblivious throwback to an era of internet animation nobody would still respond to or want more of enough to find an actual paying audience at the amounts needed to fund more of it that it was so desperately trying to force into existence
because see aforementioned immaturity, constantly shooting its own self in the foot despite itself, &c - you'd have to find an audience willing to overlook those flaws and lots of that audience, to reach its crowdfunded ambitions for anythibg past that pilot
塔露拉·雅特利亞斯
: I am not the least bit surprised tbh because the more things change the more they stay the same, and there will always be people ages 7-22 that see this kinda style and it stays with them for the rest of their life
this style is so nostalgic and like. Comfy for me. It used to trigger the same cringe response you’re having where I violently pushed it away as a reminder of youth’s folly
the animation's pretty good honestly except for the inexplicable problem of like. not even sonic team has figured out how to animate the sonic adventure-era aesthetic reliably, with mouths

: it's not even the cringe factor cuz there are still some 2000s things i will willingly dive back into. sparkledogs. everything werewolves. anything that aired on kids WB tbh
also even though i still don't understand the actual motivation for why it's happening, every time it careens headlong into techno-organic gore/vore it delights me enough i want to hug it
it is absolutely just. That Era of sonic oc levels of dumb edgelordy "we are still making jokes about how our main character shops at hot topic and hates the popular kids even as we want to be liked by the popular kids who shop at hot topic" levels of maturity and like. self-awareness
it just provokes such a strong "but who is this actually for" response, that i don't understand how it's succeeding, but it's clearly reaching some audience that is getting what they want out of it, somehow
and it's definitely like. there is clearly somebody's idiosyncrasies powering this even though it's constantly like trying to attempt to be more appealing to a wider audience nonetheless and it's like. it's weird how obvious the anxious tension is, there. weird in a really fascinating way that makes me want to pull it apart for science
I’m happy for them! Whoever they are. They’re just making something for themselves and hoping someone else likes it too. There’s something very pure about that. Even if it’s not my cuppa it’s kind of the Dream
tbh when this first floated across my view a year or so ago (the pilot and first trailer are that old) i actually did go looking just to determine if any of the designs were like.
i am lazy and was hoping o find someone taking screencaps i could just lift instead of trying to snap one myself by rewatching any of it but i did not find any easily, so instead, someone's meme will have to do
you said dA and bleedman was the forerunner of detailed chibis
Yeah that tracks
