TL;DR I've been quiet about it but Woodrow is at a point where I think it is best to let him go, but it may also be expensive because I do want him cremated, I want my boy's ashes, and this is a REALLY weird time to have this going on because this is also my birthday month.

Is it gauche to have a GFM for... uh, my service dog's end of life costs?
Usagi
Personally I don't think it is. I remember when I had to have my cat put down, how distressing it had been for me that I couldn't have even a slightest thing from him that wasn't an old toy, or similar. And I think the people you know, the people they know, so on, that's a circle that will be understanding of the situation.

You deserve to have his ashes, and if that means you need to make a GFM to get there, I think you should.

Nods thoughtfully... I'm glad I at least have (for example) his puppy collar, but it feels like, especially since I do have Maya's ashes, I should have Woodrow's. They were very fond of each other, and obviously Woodrow is. Dear to me.

yeah, i don't think it's tasteless or bad, it's understandable that you'd want that for a beloved pet
STEROID CLOWN 🎭
definitely not gauche, I've seen many a friend who needed a GFM for end-of-life pet costs

Okay, well. I'm going to the vet today to get him an injection that will make the next couple of weeks more comfortable for him and I'll try and get a price sheet while I'm there. Thank you guys

Okay, it's 380 for a euthanasia and private cremation. I can always buy a fancy box another, that's fine.
