This is one of my son Charles's favorite songs. Music sometimes calms him.

such a good song

I looked up Ms. Gentry on Wikipedia. What an interesting life

Boo J
After her first albums, she had a successful run of variety shows on the Las Vegas Strip. In the late 1970s Gentry lost interest in performing, and subsequently retired from the music industry. News reports conflict on the subject of where she lives

liked this since childhood. Still dunno what got thrown off the bridge...

It's implied that it was a baby. Or are we just joking around? I clicked nothing so no yelling at me!

Skittish Turkey : When she wrote it, she never revealed what it was. In the film, it was rag doll symbolizing leaving her childhood behind, but they never had sex.
Skittish Turkey
Interesting. Is it possible it was supposed to be a premature baby but that was too risqué so they made it symbolic?

Of course it's possible. However, we'll never know.

The questions the song sparks in us - that's what matters.

Skittish Turkey : what bugs me is that June 3 is way too early for chopping cotton but whatever
Arbieroo
Tamsie : so you're saying, wait a cotton-picking minute! It's not cotton-picking season, yet! ;-)
